Medical Fund for Tim DeVries

Donation protected
Tim has been diagnosed with debilitating atrial fibrillation (AF).

This event comes at a time where many parts of life and avenues for aid are at a seemingly impassable crossroads.

Tim has devoted his life to caring for his loving wife, Vickie and their two children Lindsey and Jonathon.

Tim served 13 years in the Navy after which he worked with Union Pacific for 15 years until he was laid off due to the coal industry bust in Wyoming last year, Tim did what he had to do to support his family and accepted a job with another railroad company in Oregon earlier this year. Tim had to leave Vickie and Jonathon in Wyoming, as Jonathon would not have managed the move well. Jonathon is 26 years old and has been diagnosed with autism and other intellectual disabilities since he was a child. Vickie took on the role of being a lifetime caregiver and advocate for Jonathon. Jonathon is now 6'2", 260lbs, and functions at a 6-7 year old level.

After a few months into Tim's new job in Oregon,  Jonathon wasn't handling the move of his dad well, and Vickie needed the support of Tim to care for Jonathon. Jonathon is prone to wandering off and has issues with aggression. Tim fortuitously was granted a transfer position in South Dakota; immensely closer to his family.

Shortly after the transfer, Tim began experiencing myriad cardiac symptoms including: chest pain, dizziness, unexpected fatigue. After several months of ER trips, tests, and not responding to drug treatment, AF was diagnosed as the cause of his pain. Since Tim was not responding to medication, it was decided to have his heart shocked back into rhytym. That failed.

During this time Tim lost his job as he was both unable and not allowed to work due to his health situation.

During this stressful time, Tim and his family faced the news that he would need surgery for a cardiac ablation to correct the AF.  When Tim was let go from his job, his family lost their health insurance and had no financial options to COBRA. All available options for health insurance aid were shutting their doors to Tim and his family. For various reasons, protocols, etc. no help was coming from the VA, Medicaid, State aid, FMLA, et al.

Tim is scheduled for his surgery, in Salt Lake City, 7 hours away from his home later on this month.

Tim has given all of himself to give his family the best life that he can provide and now he needs our help.
