Medical Expenses for Juliet Agwanda

Juliet Agwanda Needs Your Prayers and Financial Support

I apologize for the three photos, but it was the only way I could upload this photo of Juliet from head to toe within this system.   Please read her story below the photos.

From Juliet's picture she looks like a 15 year old teenager sitting at the kitchen table in her home in Kisumu, Kenya; however if you look closely at her feet you will see gangrene.  This infection is the most recent way that Lupus has attacked her body.  Until Juliet Agwanda was twelve years old, she enjoyed attending school regularly, time with her family and attending church each week.  Juliet will be 16 in December, 2019 and the last four years have been filled with chronic illness and pain.  Her parents have sought medical help at every turn and Juliet was finally diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the body's organs.

Her parents have good jobs and limited health insurance, but her family's resources have been completely depleted over these last four years and Juliet's health is not stable.  Through the kindness of friends in the US who have opened their home to Juliet and her father, Peter, they are arriving in Aiken, South Carolina on July 9, 2019 with the hope to find a treatment plan which will resolve all her current problems and also a plan for a more stable health in the future.  With careful treatment, 80 to 90% of people with lupus can expect to live a normal lifespan. Already a pediatrician in Lexington, SC has agreed to see her and make the needed referrals to the specialists who can bring her back to a more normal and pain free life.

The immediate need now is for a medical fund, so when they arrive at a doctor's office they have a way to pay or make a down payment.   A US nurse has stated that the prescriptions to treat lupus are very expensive and add to that the complications from the gangrene and the treatments will be very costly.  Her first doctor appointment is on Thursday, July 11 and then the journey begins.  We are asking you to step out in faith to create this medical fund and once Juliet begins to see doctors and we know actual costs, I will provide the specific details and needs.   For now,  we all know that you can't see a doctor or buy medicine without money.   The family has an urgent need for a fund to act as seed money for her doctor visits and treatments.  Their health insurance may cover some of the costs, but we know it will not cover 100%.

God has been faithful throughout this journey and the whole family leans on their faith to make it through this most difficult time.  God provided the plane tickets through gifts from friends, their VISAs were approved quickly, a home is provided while seeking treatments, a pediatrician is ready to see her and so many blessings along the way.  Throughout it all they continue to praise the name of Jesus.

If you are wondering what my connection is to this family, I first met Juliet in 2016 while on a mission trip to serve Life for Children Ministry.  Her father, Peter, is the brother of the founder of Life for Children Ministry and he is also the head of their office in Kisumu.  Our team received their warm hospitality.   My good friends from St. John's UMC, are hosting Peter and Juliet and I felt this is a way I could help.  I am a CPA, good with numbers and have a heart for children.

Please prayerfully consider joining others in bringing Juliet to a more stable and pain-free life.   Your gift of any amount is greatly needed and deeply appreciated.

Also, if you are a doctor, pharmacist or have connections with a hospital in the Augusta, Georgia or Columbia, South Carolina area and are willing to help Juliet at reduced or no cost, please contact me, Renee Reid, CPA through gofundme.

Here is a recent note from Juliet's parents to a donor:

Kindly find these photos they could be disturbing but this is the reality. Doctors have not decided on what to do with the gangrene toes they only advised that they should be left to fall off by themselves; however Juliet has a lot of pain, discharges and infections.  We always clean them by Bertardine solution and normal saline injection water.  May the blessing hand of the lord be upon you and all as you share the love of Christ in helping achieve Juliet's dream of becoming a doctor to help other children of God.
