Matthew Olson  SPRING VALLEY, NY
Greetings, and thanks for checking out my page.

My name is Matthew Olson. I am 18 years old, and I am on a mission. A mission to help save our planet.

I want to raise awareness about the unsustainable ways millions of us live today. To do this, I am building a tiny house as a new, sustainstainable living model. Once I'm done, I plan to donate my house to a family in need.

I am asking for your help to purchase the materials I need to keep building.  Any contribution would be a HUGE help.

I will be posting updates every few weeks and will let you know where I'm at.

Thank you so much for your support.

25 DAYS TO GO!

Dear friends and family,

The countdown is on. I’m down to the last 25 days of my campaign.

The house is progressing nicely and I’ve been taking advantage of some warmer nightshifts to make solid progress. The snow today makes it a little more challenging, but…onwards!

The roof is on and shingled. The base is insulated. The house is wrapped and windows are installed. Next comes the wood siding and then the doors. It’s looking not too shabby!

I would like to invite you all to the presentation of my project. Please come if you can!

Date and time:
Tuesday, April 4th
10:20 a.m.

Location:
Green Meadow Waldorf School, Rose Hall
307 Hungry Hollow Road
Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

Thank you all again for your amazing support.

Dear friends and family,
My structure is now officially a functional shelter as I have finished installing the roof rafters and shingles. In total the house is now over 14 feet high and I can’t stop thinking about how crazy it is going to be to get it under the electrical wires when I move it!  Tomorrow I will start installing the windows. There are seven in all, not including the giant French doors that take up most of the front face of the house — this will allow for the greenhouse effect to take place and save money and energy on heating. The windows are all also very well insulated.

I will be presenting my work the first week of April and I’d love you to come.  Once I have a date and time I’ll let you all know. Three weeks to go in my campaign!  Please help to spread the word.

Thanks so much to all,

Matthew

Dear friends and family,

Being a winter guy, I would normally be upset with 60 degree temperatures in February. Sort of puts a damper on the skiing. However, these spring-like temps couldn’t be better for building, and I've made a lot of progress this weekend — I'm just about finished with the framing! One thing that is surprising to me is just how tall 14 feet is — I still need to figure out how to get this not-so-tiny house under the power lines when the time comes to make good on my donation.

The front of the house should be completed tomorrow, and then I'll move on to the roof. After that comes the electrical work. I've also been debating about whether or not to include granite counter tops and a flat screen TV. Just kidding.

I continue to receive all kinds of awesome building help from friends and family and, thanks to you all, I’ve been able to purchase the supplies I need so far. I’m almost 80% funded, with four weeks left in my campaign. I’d really appreciate it if you’d share my project with anyone you think might be interested as I try to reach my goal.

I will be presenting my work — in the form of my senior project — to my school and community the first week in April and I hope any of you who are in the vicinity might consider attending my presentation. I’ll send you an official invitation when I have the details.

Truly,
Matthew
