Baby Matthew Samuel Streutker

Matthew was an angel.

He was born November 25, 2014: Healthy, smiling, happy and beautiful.  He grew and giggled and he was so well loved.  His mother took him to Build-A-Bear, and a woman at the store sneezed into Matthew's stroller.  Matthew became sick soon after, and  after several days  of upper respiratory symptoms he developed a fever, a worsening cough, he stopped eating, he stopped peeing.  He was taken by his mother to the Children's Hospital. The ER doctor stated that Matthew was fine. Matthew was taken home, and died on March 5, 2015.  The autopsy report revealed Matthew's size, the weight of his brain and the weight of his prostate gland. They weighed his heart and lungs, and commented on the partially digested breast milk in his stomach.  Lung samples showed  bacterial pneumonia.  His family was devastated. He was buried March 10. His baby sister will never get a chance to meet him.   His older sister, Juliet went into a severe depression, and her world was black.  She did a ski jump though, and felt Matthew in Heaven lift her skis.  So now she jumps competitively, and as she flies through the air, she flies with Matthew. It's helped her cope.  And having another child helped Matthew's mom cope, if nothing else it eased the pain of abruptly stopping breastfeeding at 3 months. Nothing is bringing Matthew back, but his loss remain excruciatingly painful for his family.

The funds will be used for
1. A memorial bench dedicated to Matthew at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens
2. A Hudson rowing shell, to be donated to the Calgary Rowing Club and named Matthew Samuel.  We hope his spirit will be carried through the racing waters in this beautiful sport his mother has committed herself to in order to cope with the agony and grief that landed upon them all.
