Marvin White Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
Marvin White is a Marine Corps buddy of mine that I have known since we served together nearly 40 years ago in Okinawa, Japan. He was a truck driver and I was a heavy equipment operator. Marvin left Okinawa a couple of months before I did, headed to Camp Lejeune, NC.

Three months later, I reported in to my new unit, which was headquartered at Camp Lejeune, but based remotely 35 miles away. While riding in the cargo truck to my new base, I had no idea what to expect when I arrived there.

When we pulled into the compound and the back door opened, the first face I saw was Marvin's with his big goofy grin and saying, "Welcome to MOOSE!" We served together for another year and a half before both of us went our separate ways in the Corps.

We lost contact for another 30 years! Marvin was an over the road truck driver and I had moved to Atlanta and was in the military reserves and travelled a lot. We found out later that each of us had been looking for the other all that time. It wasn't until 2012 we connected on FaceBook.

Over the years, whenever Marvin had a load to drop off in Atlanta or a layover, I'd go pick him up and we would go somewhere for lunch or dinner. He always had something he wanted to give me. He is the guy who would give you everything he had if he thought you needed it.

Over the years, Marv's health declined and was no longer able drive the big rigs cross country as he loved to do. Driving was who he was. Less than a year ago, Marvin married the love of his life, Pam and settled back in his home town of Saginaw, Michigan. With the VA denying his disability claims, money was tight while he pursued a reversal of that denial. While waiting, they managed to survive on Pam's Social Security payments.

Today, Sunday, December 9, 2018, after lunch, Marvin, sitting in his favorite chair went into cardiac arrest and left us as Pam did everything she could to help him until paramedics arrived.

Living on Social Security, Pam now struggles to find a way to pay for Marvin's funeral expenses and would appreciate any help that she could get as soon as possible.
