Marty's Walk for Life

Donation protected
Marty came into my life when I was 7 years old.  He stepped in right away and has always been a great dad to me, always patient and eager to help me how ever he could.  I remember him teaching me how to fish, always helping me with me homework.  He would  drive me to and from work on Saturday's and Sunday's before teaching me how to drive.  He's been such a stable figure in my life and now he needs our help.  He's a good man and definitely deserves the help and support of our community.  Thank you all very much for your support of our family.

Marty stopped by my office to say hello, but he wasn't his usual cheerful self.  He had a more serious expression; I could tell something was troubling him.  I asked him to sit down and tell me what's going on.  Marty tearfully shared the bad news he had received from his Doctor.  Due to a bad infection in his right foot, the docs will not be able to save his leg.  The Doctor informed him that the right leg would have to be amputated just below the knee.  devastating news for sure!  My heart was broken for him; I said I'm sorry and remained quiet for a bit not knowing what to say.

My mind immediately raced to the first time Marty had to face similar news and circumstance concerning his left leg.  Back in 2014, Marty a contractor, was overseas in support of Military Forces in Germany when he injured his left foot.  The damage was so severe that Docs had no choice but to amputate his left leg just below the knee, and now it's happening again.

I couldn't begin to imagine all that Marty was feeling as he shared his present circumstance.  We sat and talked in my office for a while and I listened as he talked about and contemplated his decisions.  The uncertainties of things present and future have a way of making us anxious, troubled and even fearful.  What will it be like having two prosthetic legs?  He wondered how his world would change and what will be affected in the immediate and long term.

One concern Marty had was how he would be able to afford the cost to have this operation, including the prosthetics.  Although he has health insurance, there will be a high cost associated with this operation, follow up care and life adjustments that will not be covered by his health insurance.  When Marty lost his left leg in 2014 he thought that his dismemberment insurance would assist in unforeseen costs but his claim was denied. A conservative cost estimate needed for Marty to have this operation and continue to walk, work and serve his community is $20,000 dollars.  We can help with this concern.  Along with kind and generous friends and neighbors , we can help to raise and/or give money to help supplement all the anticipated and unanticipated cost of Marty's operation and follow-up care.

In advance, thank your kindness, generosity, prayers and words of encouragement.
