Professional care for 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 6 months for Mark & Sherri.

On Wednesday, July 1st, Mark had a major stroke while He & Sherri were in Monterey. I want to communicate an accurate picture of Marks condition. Mark had 3 strokes at once. The largest stroke was in the cerebellum which is basically the control center of the brain and the area medical professionals know the least about. Although mark remembers everyone and everything, the pathways in his brain to communicate things to his body have been damaged and need to be rebuilt. The doctors and therapists can not tell us how much he will improve or how long that improvement will take. Mark cannot walk yet and cannot even get from his chair to the toilet on his own. He has no sense of where he is putting his feet, hands or even his body. This is what the therapy is hopefully going to help. The stroke effected his ability to feed himself and swallow, his speach, and even take a deep breath or cough. His eyesight is compromised and he will be seeing a neuro ophthalmologist in the near future to see if the damage is permanent or can be helped. He had an MRI done on his shoulder for an accident that happened while he was under restraints in the hospital which showed us that he has a tear. We are trusting God each day with his recovery and obviously the needs are many. Sherri is now a full time caregiver for Mark. She dresses, feeds, transfers, grooms, bathes, and cares for his physical and emotional needs 24/7 and is very happy to do so. Speaking for her family and friends, at this point in his recovery, the most practical and realistic way to help Mark & Sherri is for professional in-home care to be provided so Sherri can take time away to get other things done and to take time for herself to help prevent caregiver burnout. The amount will cover in-home care for 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 6 months. The sooner we can get the funds, the sooner we can start in-home care. Thank you all so much for everything!!!
