Mark Behnke Memorial Riverwalk Fund

I, along with several of Mark's friends and coworkers are raising money to have a memorial bench and plaque placed at the Mishawaka Riverwalk. I am Mark's sister, Michelle. Mark is an inspiration to me, his family, friends, and coworkers. Mark became a quadriplegic when he was 27 years old. He lived his life independently and raised his daughter alone. Mark's family, friends, and coworkers were deeply saddened by his tragic passing.
When Mark wasn't with his family, friends, or at work, he was at the Mishawaka Riverwalk. He wheeled at the walk every summer since its inception. He used the Riverwalk as a way to stay in shape. He could be seen there on every good evening that Indiana weather would allow. In the summer of 2017, he logged over 400 miles at the Riverwalk. He also brought his grandsons along with him. They had to ride bikes or scooters to keep up. He was always sharing on Facebook his newest, personal best. Mark's spirit was always upbeat and positive. He didn't complain about his disability and he never let it stop him from living life to its fullest. He prided himself in figuring out new ways to do things that people with his diability usually can't do, like mowing his own lawn.
The $1800 is to purchase a bench and memorial plaque in his name. This is the total cost of the bench and plaque. If we raise additional funds, it will be donated to the materials library that is being set up in his honor at Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal and Bendix) where he worked for 37 years. We would like to receive enough funds within the next month so we can secure a spot on the Riverwalk.
