Our Neighbors Are Living in Fear. You Can Help.

Under the federal government's new deportation guidelines, virtually all undocumented people can be deported, no matter how long they have lived here or whether they have children or family members who are U.S. citizens.  Deportations are up 44% since January 2017. Parents have been separated from their children. Some of our neighbors are afraid to report crimes, use vital services, or even take their children to school.

Counties across California have set up hotlines and volunteer networks to protect immigrants' rights. Marin Rapid Response Network will protect the civil rights of Marin community members targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and help detainees and their families.

We are asking for your support so that our friends. loved ones, and neighbors who are immigrants are not alone in this scary time. We are here to help them handle a terrifying situation, should ICE come to their door or stop their car. We are here to do our very best to protect their civil rights. We are here to stand with immigrants who contribute so much to this county and all of our lives. We are here to care for those among us whose security is being threatened right now.

MRRN organizers have developed a plan to create and staff a fully bilingual, 24-hour Countywide hotline for local residents to contact when they see or experience an ICE raid. The hotline dispatcher will send volunteer observers immediately to verify the event, collect information, and observe whether any civil rights violations take place. Information collected will be used to mobilize immediate help when needed, and can also support detainees' legal cases.

The hotline will be the linchpin of a broader network through which partner organizations provide services including “Know Your Rights” training, immigration law, counseling, and safety net services.

Canal Welcome Center, an established community nonprofit organization, is the lead agency for the hotline and observer response. To date 10 bilingual hotline dispatchers and 60 volunteer observers are prepared to respond. We have obtained state-of-the-art open source hotline software. With your support, we will be able to launch the hotline in the next few weeks. MRRN will continue to train new volunteers as we will need at least 200 total volunteers within the first three months to sustain the hotline.

In order to launch, we need to raise $10,000 to cover startup expenses. Two members of the coordinating committee have generously pledged to match the first $1,500 in donations.

This effort gives all who care about the safety and well being of our neighbors and their families a chance to take direct action. Please join us.

Dear supporters,

You may have seen the news in the IJ or other sources that ICE officers detained a father in Novato yesterday as he dropped his child off at school. Also yesterday, at a residential area in Novato, a neighbor witnessed ICE knocking at a door for an extended period of time. Nobody opened the door because the family knew they had the right to their privacy. In instances like this, we value your support. Your contribution makes a difference in educating the community about their civil rights and keeping families safe and together. We knew this day would come. Thanks to you we are prepared.

The Marin Rapid Response Network hotline has received dozens of calls about these incidents. We have been in touch with Rep. Jared Huffman's office. We are offering follow-up support to those affected. And our volunteers are distributing hundreds of red "know your rights" cards in the impacted community.

Just last week we trained 20 new volunteers in Novato, and we will continue to offer trainings. Visit our website at www.marinrrn.org or sign up to volunteer by pasting this link into a browser: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd32RtZ0Ei4XwZW-TRuOv3eJHGj8NupOkpirtmDF__vtD1yJg/viewform

Please spread the word and encourage your friends to continue to donate, volunteer as a legal observer, or join the Marin Rapid Response Network. Together, we are stronger.

In solidarity,

Marin Rapid Response Network team
