Marie's O2 & Dialysis Fund

$3,515 of $3,460 goal

Created October 12, 2018
We're trying to raise money for Marie to be able to purchase a portable oxygen concentrator, so she is not continually confined to our home. We are also raising money for her ongoing dialysis treatments, which have copays of around $900 per month.

We made it through the holidays, with Marie remaining stable, and her walking was slightly improved. She still needs a walker most of the time, but she can use a cane if she is on a stable, flat surface with no obstructions she could have a problem with, such as rocks, mud, or gravel.
Surprisingly, my health suffered a "glitch", in that I somehow managed to damage a disc in my back. Several hundred dollars in doctor bills later, I've improved, though my right thumb and index finger remain numb, and I have occasional pain radiating down my right arm. It's no fun for either of us, but we're still here--which is much better than many alternatives.

This weekend we were able to travel to see Marie's son and his wife and family. It was a challenge, as packing and transporting all the equipment is no easy thing.
Adding to the adventure was a power failure, causing a delay to starting Marie's dialysis treatment Friday. We discovered that bringing a short step stool with us allows her to crawl into and out of the truck a little easier. She says she enjoyed the outing immensely, though the whole thing left her very tired.
Thank you to everyone that helps out, we really appreciate the assistance.

Thanks to everyone that has helped out and contributed! We've nearly reached our goal, though some of these expenses are going to continue. We're trying to negotiate with the insurance company over the copays, pointing out they are nearly as much as many people make in a month, Currently those for her dialysis are $28 a day, seven days a week.
Marie has been placed on a transplant list, hopefully a kidney will become available soon. She's being very upbeat about this, and knows she will get through this.
Again, thanks to all who have contributed, and I'll post another update in the not-too-distant future.
