March For Science Charlottesville

We are a civic group of University members that have formed a community organization to plan the March for Science in Charlottesville VA. Science is critical to our everyday life, and is something to be celebrated. We are advocating for science education, literacy, funding, and appreciation. 

The national March for Science taking place on April 22nd in Washington DC is a show of support for science, however not everyone is able to make it to DC for the day. We want to provide an outlet to support science, learn about science going on at UVA, and teach the next generation of scientists. This is why we'll be holding a local March for Science right here in Charlottesville. 

The afternoon will begin with an event to bring science to the community. We'll have booths with interactive science experiments and activities for all ages, and you'll be able to meet some of the local scientists in our community. We'll then have brief talks from scientists and science enthusiasts before marching.

However, we need financial help to pull this great event off.  Our expenses are detailed below:

$1000 for space rental
$350 for event insurance
$1500 for police presence and road closures
$250 for supplies

We're looking for help to meet our goal and provide an event to connect scientists to our community, and to show our support for science. We greatly appreciate all contributions! Any contributions above our goal will be donated to Friends of the Earth.
