Local high school students are organizing a Salt Lake City chapter of the March For Our Lives, a national movement led by survivors of the February 14th school shooting in Parkland, FL. Any donations will go directly toward organizing expenses and supporting the efforts of these students, including expenses incurred for accessibility purposes. A publicly available document will be maintained with all donation amounts and related expenses.

Withdrawals: Will be going through a personal account (Madalena McNeil, contact info above) until an organization account is established. All donations and withdrawals will be publicly available.
Where are we from? Salt Lake City and the greater Utah area.
Relationship or connection to the parties we're fundraising for? All donations will be spent on organizational costs for the Salt Lake City March For Our Lives, which will take place on March 24th. Any leftover money will be donated at the direction of the survivors in Parkland, FL.
How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible): Permitting costs; accessibility features (chair rentals, shade tents, portable toilet rentals, etc); any other costs not donated by the community -- sound support, signage and materials, volunteer needs
What is our withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiaries? This campaign is currently managed by a local organizer who is working with the teenagers in charge. Adult support staff will be maintaining a document tracking all donations and expenses, and this will be publicly available. Donations will be withdrawn by the support staff and distributed directly to the students for designated expenses.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – On the evening of Monday, February 19th, a group of 15 students and supporters met in Salt Lake City at the first planning meeting for the March for Our Lives – SLC. The meeting included eight students from various high schools and universities who are taking the lead on planning and organizing the Salt Lake City chapter of the national March for Our Lives.
March for Our Lives is a national demonstration that has been called for by the survivors of the February 14th shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, who have emerged as a national voice for reform and action and will be marching on Washington, D.C. on March 24th. Cameron Kasky, an 11th grade student from Stoneman Douglas, had this to say on Sunday’s episode of “The Week”: “March 24th in every single city. We are going to be marching together as students begging for our lives. This isn't about the GOP, this isn't about the Democrats. This is about the adults. We feel neglected and at this point, you're either with us or against us."
Kasky’s classmate, Emma Gonzales, who gained national attention after her impassioned speech condemning President Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association for their inaction, was asked what she would say to other students around the country to encourage them to join the protest. Gonzales, a high school senior, said “The kids who need to take part in this are kids, everyday kids just like us. They are students who need to understand that this can very quickly happen to them ... They need to join us, and they need to help us get our message across. All students should realize that a school shooting could happen anywhere."
With this sentiment in mind, local students have taken the lead on organizing a sister march in downtown Salt Lake City for Saturday, March 24th. In their meeting on Monday night, the group discussed the importance of not just accountability for organizations and politicians, but also the empowerment of their generation through voting and political involvement. Isaac Reese, President of the Brighton High School Young Democrats and one of the leaders of the planning committee, said “This coalition of Utah students is working to increase youth participation in preventing gun violence by using our voices to speak out and seek reform to gun safety regulations. We believe that students have a right to a safe education.” Other students present at the meeting included Brandon de Melo of Skyline High School, Aurora Allen and Meg Flynn of Brighton High School, Elizabeth Love and Wilhelmina Graff of West High School, Sophie Davies of Judge Memorial High School, and Matt Davis of Southern Utah University.
