One of the strongest women I know, Marcellia D'Amora, was recently diagnosed with spinal cancer and will be undergoing a spinal fusion surgery this Wednesday. She could use our help. She's spent most of her life caring for others, and I'm hoping we can care for her (and her family) in her time of need.
About a month ago, she fell while hiking. She injured her back and visited the doctor several times after the pain did not subside. On saturday she decided that the pain was too much and went to the hospital for more in depth testing, because she was worried there might be something more going on. Unfortunately, she was right. The doctors found 2 large tumors on her spine and several fibroids in her breast that may or may not be related to the spinal cancer. She is undergoing the spinal fusion surgery on Wednesday because one of the tumors has damaged her spine, and one of her vertebrae is totally gone. By taking marrow from her hip and injecting it into her spine they hope that, over time, the vertebrae will grow back. As you can imagine, this is an expensive surgery even with insurance. They are going to treat the second tumor with radiation which is also very costly. They are still awaiting more specific information about the fibroids in her breast, and they will know more about the tumors once they operate on Wednesday.
Marcee is a loving mother, wife, teacher, and friend. As I mentioned before, she's spent her life caring for others. She's been a teacher for the last 18 years and a damn good one. Above all else, she is is a devoted and proud mom who loves her family more than anything. She's been a good friend to me and probably to many of you reading this. If you know her, you know how deserving she is of this help, and you probably also know she wouldn't ask for it herself. Please give if you can so Marcee and her family can focus on healing and not finances at this difficult time.
