Maphunziro Project: Education for Malwian Students

Donation protected

I recently spent 6 months in Malawi, Africa doing volunteer development work, with a main focus on assisting students with their educational needs, from motivating school, to providing school materials, and school fees.  While i was there I made the decision to start an organization to connect loving people in the united States to students who are in need of educational support called Maphunziro Project: Educate Malawi.  The program is supporting 38 students with their secondary school (high school) fees. Secondary school has an enrollment fee for each student, often too high for the student to pay causing them to drop out and join the labor force to assist their parents with bringing in more money. In my opinion, every child should have the opportunity to attend school, especially considering its not for a lack of want its purely the lack of economic revenue of the parents.  Some of the kindest, most hardworking, and brilliant students are being left out of school because they cannot afford to pay the enrollment fee. I started Maphunziro Project to help ease this challenge and allow for more students to receive an education, learn to read, learn math, science, English, and overall receive their diploma.  Out of the 38 students, I have been able to find permanent sponsorship for 20 students, meaning they will not need to worry about not being able to attend school because of lack of school money or materials. However, there are 18 other students who do not have sponsorship and still have a desperate need to learn. Much like in the United States, a higher paying career cannot be achieved without a diploma and a secondary education, and a great way to get ones self out poverty and the struggles that come with living in an underdeveloped society is through education and the future that this leads. Maphunziro Project is still trying to support these 18 students with their school fees, as they are unable to pay them without outside assistance. The students have all received the necessary school materials they are in need of for most of their "High School" career.

This GoFundMe is to support the students without sponsorship. Second term just started for the students in Malawi, meaning that school fees need to be paid in a few weeks. I am raising money for this term as well as  the coming terms that will follow. Term three starts in a few months where another fee must be paid. To send 18 students to school for 3 months is $700 in total! That's crazy small! The school fees that Maphunziro Project supports range from $9 to $63 per term. With three terms in a year, that money is an insignificant amount to us, with a very significant change for a student, the family, and in turn the community.
