PRESENTING  "MANTEN LA FE!" "KEEP THE FAITH!"

A BENEFIT FOR COLLEGIO EL ARCO IRIS

Colegio El Arco Iris is an arts school that includes performing, visual & culinary arts as well as a woman’s support group.

Iris Rodriguez Valentin started Colegio El Arco Iris, a preschool in her home, 35 years ago.  After seeing that there were no schools for the arts that served the middle class, she bought the large building next door and started Centro Arte Cristiano, a school of the arts. Last year, Hurricane María destroyed the large building that housed Centro Arte. Estimates to repair the building total $122,000.

Iris’ income is limited at this time, and she is now facing the threat of bankruptcy and foreclosure.  Temporarily, she is using the original smaller building that was also heavily damaged to offer a limited number of classes four days a week. This income is not sufficient to take care of her parents and herself, and make the repairs on the larger, school building. This does not address the loss of furniture and instruments. 

We area group of community-minded women and men whose mission is to lend support wherever there is a need.  Although we have done many smaller ones, this is our first major fundraising project. These wonderful people need and deserve our assistance.

On Sunday September 16, 2018,  “Manten La Fe!,” a benefit for Colegio El Arco Iris, a school of the arts destroyed by Hurricane María in Puerto Rico will be presented!  This will be an exciting afternoon of musical theatre, jazz, salsa, and more, by local performers.

SPONSORS:  $50 receive 1 ticket + dessert/beverage
DONORS:       $85 or more receive 1 ticket + dessert/beverage + beautiful, hand-crafted mug commemorating the
event created by local artist Karin Smith-Spanier  (limited to the first 40 DONORS, must be picked up at the event)

The theme of this event-- “Manten La Fe” or “Keep the Faith”— is to celebrate the power of the arts to heal, inspire, and unite people everywhere. Our event is dedicated to the vision of Centro Arte of Colegio El Arco Iris, and its desire to instill a love of the arts in young people in Puerto Rico. 

Highlights will be the cast from a recent performance of Ragtime, as well as other performers from the Center for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck; Jeremy Gaynor, a season 8 contestant on The Voice and currently member of the West Point Military Academy Band; illusionist Ryan Dutcher; jazz band Blue Gardenia, El Rancho Delxuo’s Cuban Salsa Band; and more.  Artistic Direction for the performance is JoAnne Schubert, a founding member of the Kingston Democracy Defenders, and one of the premier Music Directors at Center for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, and the cousin of Iris Rodriguez Valentin.
