Project GROW

Manheim Gardens is trying to make our neighborhood a better place, and we need your help.
Managing start-up non-profit is no easy task, especially in the first years of development, and right now we’re experiencing some growing pains. Manheim Community Gardens has seen its ups and downs for about a decade, but in the last year alone, new participation and involvement saw a surge in projects, ideas and goals. Last October, a group of activists, botanists, artists, and neighbors joined together to formed the Manheim Park Garden Conservancy. Our plan: reimagine and revitalize one of our area’s best kept secrets. After successfully obtaining the deed to the land, we're continuing to make payments towards completing the purchase and officially owning the place we all love so much. Volunteers from all over the city have come together to grow a formidable summer crop, raise two hives full of happy bees, and headstart a food forest. Neighbors have already donated entire lots of land towards our growing dream of making the Manheim neighborhood one of Kansas City's most green areas.
Presently, organizers are ironing out designs for a chicken coop whose annual rotation will fertilize vegetable plots, not to mention provide free range organic eggs for consumtion. The gardens are also set to be the site for one of the areas only fully-functioning outdoor kitchens, with plans being drawn up as we speak! These and many other projects will be excellent tools for localized education and community enrichment.
Your contributions will help Manheim Gardens make our community a healthier, happier, and safer one. Urban farms, organic local produce, neighbors helping neighbors … it doesn’t get much cooler than that. All donations are tax deductable, contact [email redacted] for details
