Maltiti Girls School

Donation protected
The Maltiti girls is a school in the northern town of Tamale, Ghana. The school is designated to educate girls who would otherwise not have a chance at an education. It is based on the principles of the famous African Proverb: "When you educate a boy, you educate one person. When you educate a girl, you educate an entire community."

My name is Maria and after I graduated from BBIS I decided I wanted to take a gap year. I chose to volunteer in Ghana in a humanitarian project to teach girls English because I thought that perhaps the best way to find out how to improve and help peoples situations in less developed countries, was to physically travel to these countries and volunteer to help.
As a woman and a feminist, I believe in the immense potential of girls and their power. I believe that if you educate girls and women to the extent were they can be independent in their choices and future, you are contributing to the improvement of local, regional, national and international communities. The inequality of genders, misogyny, sexism and most importantly the mistreatment, abuse and violence against women has to stop for society to progress. Providing young girls with the appropriate education is enabling them to be independent, while simultaneously opening up chances for them.
I volunteered for this program because I believe that every effort, and every help that is put into a cause contributes to a bigger change. At the end of the day if I could add my little grain of sand to help these girls, I will be extremely happy. And you can help me do that by donating even a small amount of money.

There are 12 classes with girls ranging from the ages of 5 to 20. The school lacks funding and resources. There is need for books, whiteboards, proper chairs and desks as well as educational materials such as posters or games for the smaller girls. The girls want to learn but are often unmotivated by the lack of materials to do so. Any donation would be helpful and will directly be invested in the purchase of equipment and materials for the girls according to their specific needs.
