Makenzie needs your support

Donation protected
We are a family from Loftus in Sydney. We are asking for support for our daughter Makenzie who needs surgery with a possibility of another one and has multiple doctor appointments and medical supplies and medications long term. Any funds raised will go towards surgery and ongoing follow up appointments and medical care long term

UPDATE: I haven't posted an update since our Campaign was set up the wonderful Loftus Kindergarten, where Makenzie still attends.
Here is a snap shot of what our precious daughter Makenzie has had to endure and continues to endure since she was born, she just turned 4.
She has had 10 operations and 30 + hospitalisations for various different illnesses (mainly gastro).
She still has her illeostomy bag and has also had a permanent central IV line inserted in her chest, to ensure quick rehydration due to her veins being used continously. Makenzie also now has to attend speech therapy due to many hopsitalisations which has affected her speech development.
She now has another hurdle to overcome, Hirschsprungs Disease has now had an affect on her teeth and we have just found out that she needs dental surgery in 2 weeks time that will incur a cost of over $3,000 of which may go up during surgery depending on the amount of work done.
This surgery as well as her many medical appointments and extra medical suppies, speech therapy has taken a toll on us mentally, physically & financially, but Makenzie NEVER complains and just gets on with life. I must give credit to Loftus Kindergarten for the support they give us and the amazing care they take in looking after our precious girl.
We also have 2 other girls and we don't want the financial cost of Makenzie's medical needs to affect them.
Adding to this is the stress that I may become unemployed at any time.

As any parent would know, when you are told that exciting news you’re going to have a baby, all you wish for is a healthy and happy baby.

Makenzie is 8 months old and is definitely what you would call a happy baby, but at this young age she has been in hospital six times, which include two surgeries due to she was born with total colonic hirschsprungs disease.

Her last operation was at the end of October 2014 of which her entire large bowel was removed and since the age of 3 weeks old she lives with an ileostomy bag. Makenzie will be in nappies longer than the average child, possibly into her school years.

As you can imagine life is a juggle for the Flower family, as Makenzie is regularly in and out of hospital. Leanne and Greg also have two other children Tea (10) and Indiana (3) who attends Loftus Kindergarten and Child Care Centre. Leanne is usually the one who stays with Makenzie at the hospital while Greg looks after their other two children.

Both Greg and Leanne work to enable them to provide for their family.  With hospital stays of 4-5 days each time  has caused them loss in wages and financial strain.

In addition to their loss of income they have the expense of ongoing specialist, surgeon, and paediatrician appointments. They now are required to see a genetic Doctor as there may be a possibility she is carrying a gene which can be a high risk for thyroid cancer. Also the possibility of seeing a dietician regularly as she has issues with weight and intolerance to quite a bit of food.

This will all be ongoing for Makenzie and her family. There are special medical supplies they need to buy for Makenzie particularly special barrier creams which can only be sourced overseas and can be quite expensive.

The biggest challenge for Greg and Leanne currently and in the future is if Makenzie ever gets sick 99% of the time she will end up in hospital. The slightest bug can be serious and due to her condition fatal.

Please dig deep and show your support to the Flower family to make their life a little bit easier. As Leanne said “I hope this explains the enormity of what we are currently face and what we are expecting in the future.”

We can only imagine how tough life must be feeling for the Flower family and we are in awe that whenever they drop/pick up Indiana from Kindy they are positive and have a smile on their face.

Please forward this to your friends and family. A big thank-you for your support!

Warm regards,
Loftus Kindergarten
