#Makeitawkward

My name is Jesse Lipscombe. Recently, I was the victim of a verbal racial attack in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The #MakeItAwkward campaign began on September 1, 2016, after the City of Edmonton, my wife and I decided to turn a negative situation into a conversation and platform for everyone who is discriminated against because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, gender etc.

The campaign has gained a lot of traction with some key support from the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

#MakeItAwkward is about speaking up SAFELY in the face of discrimination. It's about pledging as individuals, as businesses, as institutions and as governments, to make our environments as inclusive as possible, as we work toward a society that is fair and equal for all. 

In the coming weeks, a full mission statement and #MakeItAwkward how-to will be available online at makeitawkward.ca. 

The #MakeItAwkward campaign requires funding to create the materials that will combat discrimination and hate. We need the tools to change the world: those include a website, administration costs, human resources, PR campaigns, videos, expert consultation and promotional materials. Social media and news have helped create awareness to this point but to continue this campaign and to create tangible tools to help, we need you!

All financial decisions will be vetted by a Board of Directors.
