Make my bathroom safe/accessible

This week I found out that my Ejection Fraction has dipped from 45% to 30%, which essentially means my heart is now functioning at 50% below what it should be (normal EF is 60-70%ish) and I am in a state of chronic heart failure (yes that is as scary as it sounds!)

Unfortunately this isn't my first time with heart failure; in 2013 I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The main symptom of this is Heart Failure, specifically Left Valve Systolic Dysfunction. Basically it meant that my heart had become enlarged and scarred and it couldn’t pump blood properly so my lungs were filling up with fluid.
My condition meant that I had to stop working, I lost much of my mobility and saw my world completely turned upside down.

Since 2013, I've worked very hard to get my heart function up from 11% at the time of hospital admission to 25% when I left hospital and then up to 45%; but as of this week, I am pretty much back where I started.

I'm getting some fantastic medical care (hooray for the NHS!) and my cardiologist is currently fighting to get me on a new medication that will increase my chances of surviving the next 5 years by 20%! Like I said, scary, but hey, every little helps.

BUT the biggest issue I'm facing right now though is this: I CANT GET AROUND MY HOUSE! Heart failure completely wrecks your mobility and I'm struggling to do basic things like washing myself, going up and down stairs and using the loo. This is worsened by the fact that my bathroom is LETHAL to me right now.

The rails I have by the loo and shower are falling off so they can't support me. I need a slip mat so I don't fall and break my neck (that is not how I want to go out...) and a bigger shower that will have room for a shower seat (so hopefully I don't faint quite so much when I need to shower!) oh and there is also a hole in my shower that goes straight down into the garage...

Washing is such a basic thing, but right now its essentially impossible. And that's why I'm asking for some help.

All the money raised in this campaign will go towards purchasing equipment and paying for the installation of these aids and adaptions.

I have put some pictures of my bathroom below, so you can see what we're working with here:

The giant hole under the plug in my shower. You can see my garage!

The rails really need replacing so they can actually support me.

My shower is far to small to have a seat, which means I can faint when I'm in the shower, or need to have family come round to help me shower (bleak I know, but hey, there is a bonus cat in the pic!)

I am in the process of collecting quotes from bathroom fitters who I hope will be able to advise me on the best set up for my needs.

Whilst I wait for that, I can improve my situation in the immediate, by getting things like new rails to support me and slip mats; all of which will help me regain some normality, independence and the ability to wash and go to the loo!

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, any help at all is so so appreciated and I feel so supported and loved by all who encouraged me to do this. Lots of love.

Here’s a photo of my discharge papers with my diagnosis, I’ll update with my condition once my letter from the cardiologist goes to my doctor.
