Major Crimes: The Inside Story

Donation protected
For the past several months I have been working on a big project - a book (tentatively titled Major Crimes: The Inside Story) that will tell the story behind the story of the birth, life and death of the TNT crime drama Major Crimes.

Thanks to my work as an entertainment journalist, I have existing relationships with many of the people behind the show; giving me both access and the chance to tell this interesting story. My hope had been that, given the show had an audience in excess of ten million viewers in the United States, I would be able to pitch and sell the idea to a traditional publisher.

But after being widely rebuffed, I launched a book imprint off of my main company TVWise (where I work as a journo) to publish this project. Now I need your help to raise enough money to enable me to do the necessary research and pay for the publishing process.

Book Synopsis

In early October 2017, TNT announced that Major Crimes – the spin-off of the award-winning television series The Closer – would be coming to an end with its upcoming sixth season. This, despite the fact that it ranks as their highest rated show, and the cast & crew all want to continue producing new episodes.

‘Major Crimes: The Inside Story’ explores the unusual story of the show’s origins, the characters, key events across all six seasons and how the arrival of a new boss and strategy at the network set in motion a series of events that led to the cancellation.

Compiled from original reporting and countless interviews with the people who were there (including series creator and showrunner James Duff, cast members, directors, writers and executives), this is the definitive story of the birth, life and untimely death of Major Crimes.

Contributors

I started conducting interviews for Major Crimes: The Inside Story in early January. I expect to conduct anywhere between 300 to 500 interviews before the book is done; which given the size of this project could take anywhere between one and three years.

Thus far, the following people have been interviewed for the book:

James Duff (Series creator, showrunner and executive producer)
Tony Denison (who starred as Lt Andy Flynn)
Graham Patrick Martin (who starred as Rusty Beck)
Robert Gossett (who starred as LAPD Assistant Chief Taylor)
Philip P. Keene (who starred as Buzz Watson)
Jessica Meraz (who starred as Detective Camila Paige)
Kathe Mazur (who recurred as DDA Hobbs)
Ever Carradine (who recurred as Sharon Beck)
Bill Brochtrup (who recurred as Dr Joe Bowman)
Zarah Mahler (who recurred as Emily Raydor)
Ron Marasco (who recurred as Judge Grove)
Steve Koonin (former President of Turner Entertainment Networks)
Michael Wright (former President and Head of Programming for TNT, TBS & TCM)

I will be providing updates on further contributors as and when I can.
