Maisy's Recovery Fund

Maisy, our three year old hound mix dog, had a devastating fall from a forty-foot sheer rock cliff near Bear Mountain on Saturday, August 12. We have no idea how she survived, but I carried her down the mountain and rushed her to Oradell Animal Hospital , where she was immediately placed into critical care, given pain relief medication, and situated inside a special oxygen cage for animals.

Maisy is having surgery on Tuesday, August 13 to amputate her right hind leg, clean and close her other wounds, and remove broken teeth. Her team at Oradell has made her comfortable with multiple types of painkillers and is monitoring her progress 24/7. They are optimistic that she will recover with time, surgery, and a lot of medical care. Fortunately, Maisy is young, healthy, and very fit.

We do not have pet insurance, as Maisy's care is typically provided by her uncle, a vet, but in this situation, we were too far from home and her needs too critical to make the drive all the way to Staten Island. 100% of the funds raised here will go to Maisy's medical care. Our down payment was almost $5000, and the estimate for her remaining needs is between $10,000-20,000. Maisy is full of life and can heal from this. Euthanasia is not an option for our family, nor is it medically necessary.

We adopted Maisy when she was about seven months old from North Shore Animal League, where she was transferred from a high-kill shelter in the South. Bringing Maisy home got me through one of the most challenging times in my life, and I will spend the rest of her life trying to return the favor.

Maisy is the happiest, healthiest, most playful dog in the world, and she approaches all people, dogs, cats - you name it - with love and joy. She loves playing with her friends at the dog park, hiking, swimming, trying to become friends with cats and squirrels, and snuggling with her humans. Maisy is fearless (except when it comes to firecrackers), smart, and curious, and she is a loved and loving member of our family. Please help us bring Maisy home.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us, thank you to Maisy's dog park friends who held a prayer vigil, and thank you to Maisy's medical team for taking such good care of her.

Thank YOU for reading this, and, even if you can't donate, please pray for Maisy and share this page.
