« Mainely Baroque »
is a musical and cultural exchange based around Italian music of 17th century, a diverse repertoire performable on various combinations of instruments. A collaboration between interested music professors and students of the University of Maine and surrounding areas, and professional musicians from Europe specialized in this repertoire, the project would introduce students to historical performance practice on period instruments, as well as exploring the application of the same principles in modern instrument performance. Our goal is to make this magnificent music more widely accessible, and expand the knowledge, experience and potential performance repertoire of all participants.

WE NEED YOUR HELP !
Due to the experimental nature of this project, no official funding has been made available. Your donations will contribute to the visiting musicians' travel and instrument expenses, and enable us to present masterclasses and historical performance workshops for students in the University of Maine Department of Music. A final concert to showcase the students' work will be presented at the end of the week, and the visiting artists will be featured in a midweek concert as well.

If this initial project succeeds, we hope to set up a permanent exchange program with the Italian early music festivals Antiqua Manent  and Mareterra in the southern region of Puglia, whereby American professors and students would be invited to Italy in order to experience Italian language and culture while collaborating with Italian musicians to perform this repertoire in the very historical spaces for which it was composed.

*** Versione italiana ***
