These are the words Gene uses to describe Nantucket, his home.
As you may know, Gene Mahon, our beloved “Mahon About Town”, has been off island with serious health issues since late October. It has been a challenging time, filled with many set backs, but the good news is that he is almost ready to return home! The bad news is that he faces catastrophic medical and living expenses, including 24 hour care.
It’s impossible to list everything that Gene has done for the Nantucket community since he arrived in 1969. He loved this island from Day 1 and quickly set about weaving himself into the Nantucket fabric.
Gene has founded or operated many island businesses, including the legendary Roadhouse Jazz Club, the Camera Shop and Nantucket TV. He has served on the board of dozens of committees and organizations for nearly 50 years, most recently the Nantucket Arts Council, Comedy Festival, Community Foundation and Chamber of Commerce.
For many years, through Mahon About Town, Gene has generously photographed and given free press to island non-profits and virtually anyone who asked for help.
Now, Gene needs our help.
Now, we need to raise $200,000 to pay for Gene’s medical and living expenses.
No donation is too small or too large.
