The Magic Words 101 Project seeks to provide workshops for moms-to-be that stress the importance of language exposure (and story) for academic, social, and emotional success.
Just as language development begins with pre-literate skills, including gesticular and facial cues that are associated with motherese--- the communication used by moms and caregivers to engage babies--- , the same interactions are key to fostering important social cues and skills, as well as emotional well-being.
All contributed monies will be used to offset inkind contributions related to preparation and execution of such workshops, as well as costs for venues, equipment, meals, and related products for the participants.
Other contributions, such as books, videos, cds, and new mom necessities will be accepted, too, and distributed during the workshops.
Collaboration with community organizations that outreach to young families and moms-to-be forms an integral component to making the project a success.
