Magic Mike's Recovery (Loss Of Eye)

My uncle, Magic Mike, of Gainesville, FL was receiving ongoing treatments for diabetes that led to a sudden and severe infection in his right eye, resulting in his eye being surgically removed.
.
Mike is a well-loved, self-employed entertainer, magician, balloon-artist and juggler. He provides entertainment at several area restaurants as well as other events in the community. He performs for schools, libraries, fairs, and parties! He even performed at my wedding! :)
.
I know that his life is changing suddenly and drastically and he will have quite a few hardships during healing, recovering, and adjusting to this change. He will need to be extra cautious regarding his remaining eye, too.
.
I know he will need our help with his cost of living while out of work for several weeks, as well as with his substantial medical bills (not covered by insurance) and possibly Occupational Therapy as he becomes rehabilitated... learning to drive, to complete ordinary tasks and to perform again with this change in sight.
.
Growing up, I LOVED spending time with my uncle Mike and even being his mini “assistant” at several of his events and restaurants. I have always looked up to him as a fun and positive role model and I know that he has that same impact on his community in Gainesville.
.
I hope that his community of friends, family, and supporters can come together and help him take the time to heal properly and then get back to doing what he loves!
.
Anything that you can contribute is greatly appreciated!!

My daughters (and I) love to visit my uncle, Magic Mike!

Update! It already feels like forever ago, but I really enjoyed visiting with Mike (and family) a few weeks ago. My girls loved getting a peek at some of his magic and puzzles and he even also entertained a few kids who were passing by at the park. :)

Mike has been having quite a bit of trouble with headaches and not feeling that great so he has been trying different things for relief.

He has returned to work at one of the restaurants (Adam’s Ribs, north location. Check his page for details. Facebook.com/MeetMagicMike) and he is also doing parties!

Unfortunately, he just found out that his insurance will NOT cover his prosthetic eye, so that will be about $2000 alone.

As always, we are greatly appreciative of everyone’s support, donations, and kind words and if we could continue to share his story it would be very helpful and much appreciated! ❤️
Entertaining at the park!

Magic Mike is getting back out there and doing great! He performed for a birthday party and a business event. He is hoping to be back in restaurants in April or possibly sooner. He says it’s been tough, but your support has meant so much! Thank you!

Magic Mike’s new look! My grandpa suggested the amber glasses and Mike is liking them better than wearing a patch. He is performing at a birthday party this weekend.

He says:
“My left "eye" doesn't look too bad. It looks black and blue but getting better every day. I'll get a prosthetic eye when it is done healing. Apparently I'll meet with a guy who makes the eye and that may take another month. It'll be another milestone to look forward to.”

Thank you for continuing to share my uncle, Magic Mike’s story! ❤️
