Madison's Thailand Book Fund

Donation protected
A key part of my teaching theory is that literature should play a prominent part in the classroom. I would like to help get more English books in the library of the Thai school where I'm teaching as I've noticed that their selection is very limited. In order to do so I would ask for donations from family and friends. For every donation of $5 or more, I would have students decorate and write a postcard to send to donors. In doing so, students will have an opportunity to practice writing in English and I feel that they will be more invested in the books as they played a part in helping to get them. Additionally, once the books are at my school, I would like to hold some teacher training sessions where I show teachers ideas on how to incorporate literature in the classroom. This year marks the first year that my school has a Fulbright ETA (English Teaching Assistant). It is a ten year program, so I also hope that the nine other ETAs who will be here will benefit from having a wider variety of English books to use in their classrooms.

A few of my close relatives are planning on helping to purchase books in America with the money raised, and then a portion of the proceeds may go to help ship the books to D.C. in diplomatic pouches that I received with my Fulbright program. They will then be shipped from D.C. to Thailand free of charge.

Thasala School and my Thai community have been incredibly generous and welcoming to me throughout my entire time here. I'm hoping that through this fundraiser I can help give back to them!
