Maddies Special Equipment Wishes

Donation protected
Hi, I am Maddie

I didn’t have a good start to life. Born on 12th May 2013, I suffered a brain injury during birth due to lack of oxygen, the technical term for my condition is Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy or HIE. When I was born I was very poorly and wasn’t expected to live past a few days . But with lots of support and hope from family and friends, I have come a long way.

The type of damage to my brain that I have means that we do not know what the future holds or how my brain injury will affect my progress in the future.
I have many complex needs, I am registered DeafBlind but make good use of the vision that I have and wear 2 cochlear implants to enable me to hear. Sound doesn't sound the same to you as it does to me but it helps me to be able to access my world better. I have Cerebral Palsy that affects all 4 of my limbs, this means that I am classed as non mobile and need help to move around and get in and out of my wheelchair or standing frame (although I am learning to roll!!) It also means I have regular spasms that can be very uncomfortable so its important my position is changed regularly.
I have complex epilepsy which can at times be difficult to manage, I am on regular medications for this and a special diet called the Ketogenic diet. This has helped reduce the number and severity of my seizures.
Lastly I am tube fed into a tube called a gastrostomy which goes straight into my tummy.

Mummy and Daddy are always looking at different forms of treatment and equipment to help me and, unfortunately, not all of these can be supplied through the NHS. Also a lot of them cost a lot of money!!
So Mummy and Daddy are always thinking of creative ways to fundraise to afford all the different equipment that could improve my quality of life and help me reach my full potential.

On my wish list currently are,

The Innowalk - £21,464
The Innowalk is a piece of equipment that supports me to learn to sit to stand and when I am standing in it, it helps me to be able to learn to take steps. It's like a cross trainer in the sense it excercises leg muscles and helps with head control. But in it I am fully supported so I feel safe and able to take some steps myself and excercise the muscles in my legs that otherwise don't get any.
The more I am able to use it, the stronger I will get.

Eye Gaze £6500
I would really like to have my own eye gaze to enable me to be able to communicate back to people when they talk to me. I can understand basic instructions and questions and I would like to have the equipment to be able to respond. If I had an eye gaze that I could take around with me I would be able to learn different ways of communicating with people. Not to mention the cool games that are on there that I love playing!
This would be able to come to school with me too and help with my learning there!

Finally the pool aid. - £1650
This would enable me to have some time in the swimming pool without being contantly held. I love hydrotherapy, it helps my muscles to relax, I sleep better and am so much happier but some independence in the pool like my siblings get would be amazing!

We are not asking for the full amounts as we are hoping to approach some charities that may be able to help us with the rest. Fingers crossed!!

Thankyou for taking the time to read about me! If you or anyone you know would like to do any fundraising for me I would really appreciate it! Please get in touch.

Lots of Love
Maddie x
