Sweet baby Maci was born on August 2nd, 2014 to proud parents: Julie Overman and Raymond Hodges.
She was not even three months old when she was rushed to UVA. Maci was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain.
Due to this Maci had surgery to implant a shunt on 10/29/14. The shunt drains the excess fluid from the brain. It also has a valve to keep it flowing and at the correct rate. There are many complications with the shunt. Maci was re hospitalized on 11/2/14 due to the shunt draining too much fluid. She was again hospitalized on 12/29/14 when her MRI showed no improvement. Maci underwent another surgery, a shunt revision. She continues to have struggles and will require many trips to the doctor, tests and care.
Maci is a fighter and so is her family. This page has been created to help fund Maci's medical bills and assist the family with travel expenses back and forth to UVA. (About an hour and a half drive one way). Any donation is greatly appreciated. Let's help keep the beautiful smile on this precious baby's face!
