Hi, my name is Aaron and I’m the Vice-President of The H.O.P.E. Club at Sequoia High School.
The mission for The H.O.P.E. Club is to collaborate with peers to develop a sense of Empathy, Compassion, and Community; which is why I was inspired to chose the acronym H.O.P.E., which stands for Hold On Pain Ends.
We dedicate our time to work towards making a difference AND bringing awareness about the increasing homeless population in our local community and the ex-homeless residents who thrive in the self sufficiency program at The Vendome in San Mateo.
On November 29, 2018, in collaboration with a local non-profit outreach team and our local law enforcement, we handed out our first custom care-package to a woman who is currently living on the streets, but on the journey towards self-sufficiency.
Our hope is to raise enough resources to provide meals, buy items for our care-packages, and to order H.O.P.E. bracelets to sell and give away for this cause that my peers and I are so passionate about. We will have teacher supervision in handling any resources contributed.
Some of our upcoming endeavors to bring awareness to homelessness include: A community art show showcasing our Jackson Pollock inspired pieces and a county-wide effort with law enforcement to distribute our custom-made Sequoia High School H.O.P.E. bags filled with basic essentials.
We are so proud of our accomplishments, and for the distinguished recognition by LifeMoves and The Sequoia Union High School District Board of Trustees for all our hard work and dedication in community service.
