Anyone who know's Katie knows what a truly sweet, genuine, and inspirational person she is. She is a true blessing to anyone that meets her. She goes out of her way to assure others' happiness and always has a heart of gold.

On July 10, 2017 Katie went to grab food with some of her friends after work. The amount of rain we got that day was the most we have had in a long time, flooding everywhere. On Katie's way home she hit a flooded area where she unfortuantely overcorrected her car. Katie's car went over an enbankemt and rolled at least 20-30ft, she was the only one in the vechile. Luckily, a stranger saw her go over and was able to call the police where the cops showed up and she was then transported to Methodist Hospital where she currently resides in the Neuro ICU.

It was unclear of what Katie's actual condition was as family and friends' arrived to the hospital.  As the time went on it was clear that she has horrible head truama. A bolt was placed into her brain to help with the pressure/swelling. Right now she is in a medically induced coma. They did try to bring her out of it and the first time she was responsive but very scared as she tried to pull the bolt out of her head, they quickly put her back under. The other attempts she was unrespsonive, but the doctors say that is normal for something this traumatic. They also put in a central line by her heart to help lower the pressure in her head, they put in a chest tube because she has a larger deflated lung than what they initially suspected, she broke her jaw in two places so a feeding tube was put in to assit with feeding due to the fact they will need to wire her jaw shut. Kaite is responding minimally and there continues to be no movement on her left side. It is belived that she also had a stroke.

The next step is to get the bolt removed from her head and the vent removed to do an MRI. The MRI will help determine the severity of the brain injury. They are going to start switching up some of the medications she is on to lower her sedation and help regulate her blood pressure. Either her vent will come out or a trach will be put in so her jaw can be wired shut for the next 2-3 months.  Katie is looking at a minimum year recovery time before she is back to "normal" and also some serious rehab time to assit with her injuries.

For those that know this beautiful girl, they know that it is not just on the outside but also within and she shows it to everyone around her with her heart of gold. She would be the first person to offer her assitance to anyone that needs it, even if it was a complete stranger. Please consider helping Katie and her family with her extensive medical bills. It is unfrotunate that healthcare is so expensive and the last thing she needs to worry about after she fights this uphill battle is how she is going to pay for all of this.
