Marshall Matters

This is not my story; this is the story of my friend of many years who was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2018.  At the onset, this seemed to be a non-event for him because even though it took a couple of tries for the doctors to properly diagnose his condition, none of the early opinions pointed to anything serious.  How many of us have an ache or pain and let it go? Well, his pain turned out to be a cancerous mass that had to be removed.

Once the mass was removed, he had 12 rounds of chemotherapy, you know the usual process for all of us who have had friends or family members with any type of cancer.  Through all of this he worked (gotta pay the bills), never complaining about his condition, the fact that he has cancer, and truly how unfair life can be sometimes.  He would never tell you any of this, unless you asked, which is why several of us are writing the story for him and his family.

As with many of us who have friends or family members with cancer, you are excited and hopeful when chemotherapy ends and the expectation of remission begins.  Heck, I know more people who have beat cancer than lost (my family has a 66% winning streak), so when it was determined that one of his lymph nodes was slightly enlarged after chemotherapy, I think everyone was a little discouraged (to say the least).  That's as a friend, imagine if that's you, or your mom, daughter, son, brother, husband or wife.

Then the unthinkable happened. In February of this year, he found out that in three short months it has spread to his liver and is now stage 4. In April, he found out it was even worse and spread to his gut and outer intestines.

So, Marshall has to continue the fight and he is now teaming up with MD Anderson to beat this. Unfortunately this means that Marshall will need to travel to Houston pretty regularly.

1) Who can afford to travel to and from Houston 4 or 5 times a month?

2) Who wants to travel alone?  Especially when it is taking you away from your loved ones without getting paid or being on any type of vacation?

3) Let's help him and his family with these expenses...

A simple donation goes to help pay for any expense incurred while he is going through his treatment in Houston.  I can tell you first hand without reservation cancer is expensive and obviously takes a toll on the person fighting, their family and friends both physically and emotionally.  Let's help take away some of that anxiety of 'how am I going to pay for X'?

Again, Marshall or Meredith would never ask for anything, not because of pride, but simple humility.  He is private, this is personal and he is in a fight that he is going to win.

We just need to be in his corner giving prayers, love and if possible money for expenses.

This is the story of my friend Marshall and his family and I ask that you pray with us for his full recovery.  Any funds you can donate to assist with his fight will go a long way in helping to cover related expenses.
