Kamila's Medical Expenses

Our beautiful daughter, Kamila Rose, was born with a genetic blood disorder called Beta Thalassemia Major which causes a life-threatening type of anemia.
As a result, Kamila will require blood transfusions every 3 weeks for the rest of her life. The only known cure at this time is a bone marrow transplant, and even if there were a perfect match, it too comes with potential risks.
By her second month of life, Kamila had her 1st blood transfusion and since she was so small, it was very difficult to find her vein without poking her multiple times. It was heartbreaking having to watch our newborn daughter get poked 10 times in a single visit. So at 5 months, we opted for her to have a port-o-cath surgically implanted so that doctors and nurses could draw blood for tests as well as administer blood during transfusions.
Since Kamila has a port-o-cath, we must immediately bring her into Rady Children's Hospital if she has a fever of 101° F due to the risk of infection. Also, anytime that Kamila gets sick, it takes a toll on her body and causes her to use up the good hemoglobin in her blood at a faster rate.
In October 2014, Kamila fell ill with a viral infection and was admitted to the hospital to recover and be monitored for 3 days. Even with health insurance, the co-pays for a 1-day stay in the hospital is over $300 and any trip to the emergency room if she has a fever is $100. Routine blood transfusions cost only $30 per visit which quickly adds up to over $500 per year.
My wife and I are firm believers in working hard and have paid every medical bill that we are responsible for. We are also believers in asking for help when we need it, and so with this, we are asking for any type of gift that you can give. I am sure every parent, especially new parent, knows how financially straining raising kids can get, but I hope that you will never need to know the struggles of having the financial burden of continually paying off medical bills.
