Projects Abroad & LuxGroup 2018 - Sri Lanka
LuxGroup is very excited to announce that we are partnering with Projects Abroad to organise a team to volunteer in Sri Lanka.
Who are Projects Abroad?
Founded in 1992 by geographer professor Dr Peter Slowe, Projects Abroad is now the world's leading international volunteering organisation, with projects in over 50 countries around the world.
What do they do?
Projects Abroad operates on a global scale arranging volunteer and support teams for locations in Africa, Asia, South Pacific Islands, Latin America & the Caribbean islands working with local communities.
Why are we going to Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka continues to make strides moving on from the devastation of the 2004 Tsunami and past political tensions. It is now a peaceful, welcoming destination for travellers and is fast becoming a 'must visit' country for tourists.
LuxGroup has developed a close relationship with Sri Lanka across our travel arm, Luxury Escapes and we have chosen to support the local coastal communities outside Columbo. Although the gap in income equality has shrunk in recent years (with many families now having access to electricity and clean water), there is still a significant need for volunteers to contribute to the communities that remain disadvantaged. Children remain especially vulnerable and we are aiming to have a positive impact on the lives of children living in orphanages and special needs centres, as well as teaching and arranging sports for disadvantaged families and schools.
How are we getting involved?
We are sending a team of ten LuxGroup legends to head on a mission to coastal communities in Sri Lanka. The crew will depart in the first week of May 2018 for 7 days. In order to send our volunteers, we aim to raise $18,620.
