With humility and gratitude we have decided to start this fundraising campaign to help get us through this tough period in our lives. We are a family of 3 with soon-to-be 2 year old son. My son’s mother, and my partner, Liza is also an artist and together we have been lucky with great opportunities in both our art careers. Together we have navigated the ups and downs of an artistic lifestyle. Together we have tackled an array of problems since we met almost 8 years ago - from the creation and installation of artwork to coming up with money for the rent and our bills. In 2016, when our son was only 6 months old we took on our most challenging situation yet - we moved away from our family, friends and support system to a small college town in Illinois so Liza could complete an MFA program. But it has been even more challenging and stressful than expected, and this last year has been increasingly difficult.

Most of you who know me are familiar with the kind of work I have been doing for the last 13 years. Some of you may already know that a former client of mine is now suing me. This obviously has added more stress to our already demanding lives. Instead of working on assignments for clients or producing new products for my fans and art collectors I have instead been forced to spend my time diligently working on my case, from finding legal counsel to all the details associated with the dispute. Our already very modest graduate-school-budget has been stretched beyond its limits because I’ve spent time focused on the case against me. We are facing over a month of debt and unpaid bills directly caused by this lawsuit. Any money raised will be used to alleviate the unusual financial situation we find ourselves drowning in due to the combination of graduate school fees, the cost of daycare for our son, and other costs that will certainly incur in the days and weeks to follow during this challenging period.

Like so many people we are used to living day-to day, paycheck-to-paycheck, but this has added another burden to our lives and our financial state is dire. We are at a halfway point with Liza’s education career with lots of promising things to come. I believe that hard things makes us stronger and how you deal with them builds character and experiences that you can use and share with others. We chose this life as artists because we feel that art is a thoughtful experience with an important voice for the possibility of human growth and social awareness, that is essential to our community.

Please consider supporting us so that we can focus on getting things back to a healthier state for our small family. Your help will enable us get through this rough patch and we will be genuinely, incredibly grateful. We are confident things will move forward in a positive direction.

Thank you in advance,

Luis Diaz and Liza Sylvestre

P.S. We would like to send everyone who makes a donation a thank you that will include a limited edition trading card. If you do choose to donate please contact us so that we can send you a small token of our appreciation and gratitude!
