Lucky’s Hernia Surgery

Donation protected
Lucky was found on my back porch on the morning of Saturday, July 7th. As I stepped out to feed the feral colony I care for I saw her, a new kitten looking up at me. She was not afraid of me and allowed me to pick her up. I immediately discovered she only had 3 legs. I also noticed a small bulge in her abdomen. I was lucky to get her into my Vet that morning and found out that she was born with only 3 legs, and more worrisome that the bulge in her abdomen was an umbilical hernia. The Vet was concerned that the hernia could progress quickly as she is a kitten and would be more active. In turn, her intestines would begin to push through the hernia. Today I took her to the Vet as I was concerned that her hernia had grown. I was saddened to learn my fear was warranted and her hernia had grown 3x its original size.

The Vet wanted to get her in immediately and can get her in for surgery as early as Monday morning. Because this is all coming quite suddenly, it is quite hard to come up with the funds for her surgery quickly. My first rescue, Phantom, was another cat who required extensive surgery within a few days of being found and even with the small network of rescuers and fosters I knew, we were able to raise $900 for his surgery within a few hours. I am hoping that we will be able to do the same for Lucky. She has already survived the odds-the Vet is convinced she was dumped by someone considering she had no fear of humans and appears to be about 8 weeks old. While it would sadden me, it makes sense as my neighbors know my Mother and I care for the stray and feral cats in the neighborhood.

While the higher end of her estimate is $532, my request to raise $650 is twofold. One, GoFundMe does take a percentage of funds raised. Secondly, the Vet may be willing to spay her while repairing her hernia. This would be roughly an additional $80 charge.

From the bottom of my heart, if you are able and willing to donate, you’re helping save the life of a precious cat who has won the hearts of everyone who has met her or seen her pictures and videos online. I can promise you will receive a very heartfelt thank you card in return.
