Lucky Tales Sanctuary Startup

We are starting a farm sanctuary in Limington, ME. In 2014, I took eight male goats from a dairy farm and one female who they found rather difficult, and I purchased a house with 9.5 acres so these animals could live in freedom. I was initially hoping to start a farm sanctuary, inspired by Farm Sanctuary and Peace Ridge Sanctuary, but I also ran a small business which provided for the money to feed and care for the animals that live with me and I simply didn't have the time.

I now have a partner who is equally passionate about caring for animals, and together we do have the time to expand considerably: Once we get 501(c)3 status, we will be in a better position to look for volunteers, to fund-raise, and to continue to educate the public. This campaign is for the money necessary to file articles of incorporation, speak to lawyers, and work with the IRS.

While we have a predominately vegan message, with an emphasis on the cruelty of animal agriculture, farm sanctuaries provide a way to discuss humanity's relationship with animals in a low conflict, nonjudgmental environment. We encourage visitors of all convictions and diets who just want to meet a happy animal.

By rescuing "livestock" animals, we have an opportunity to discuss how farm animals are treated in our society, and the cost of animal agriculture, and visitors get to see happy, friendly animals: These animals are very enthusiastic to interact with people, as they've been raised in a compassionate environment, and they are wonderful ambassadors. People often exclaim "they're just like dogs!" Which, of course, is our point exactly.
