Lucky Lucy's Vet Bill

Donation protected
Lucky Lucy is a beautiful Holstein heifer that I rescued a few years ago.

She had been raised by 4-H students at another farm but was going to be sent to butcher because she could not conceive a calf.

She was then relocated to another farm where they try to breed her again but we are once again unsuccessful. Her fate looked grim & staff at the second Farm did not want to see her butchered either so they asked me if I could take her in and I did.

Just because Lucy could not have a baby did not mean that she wasn't important . It didn't mean that she was a life just to be thrown away .

We have embraced her at my farm and we love absolutely her . She has let hundreds of children get up close to an adult cow with head scratches belly rubs and treats. She has photo bombed pictures, sneezed on people, burped on us & made farm guests smile for the camera numerous times . She just loves the attention she gets from people and loves playing with all the other Farm animals .

Last year when I was pregnant I wrote a blog about the amazing activity that Lucy picked up. Every day when I went in the pasture with her she would come directly up to me and had press on my pregnant belly . Soon I realize that she must be listening to the fetal heartbeat as some animals have been known to do . That idea was confirmed after I had the baby and she immediately stopped this activity.

She is definitely amazing animal and we want to do whatever we can to keep her healthy and comfortable.

In the last few weeks Lucy has lost several hundred pounds. Although she is still happy to see us and the other animals, she seems lethargic depressed & dehydrated. Cows are indiscriminate feeders. They've been known to eat metal or other objects an accident or consume toxic plants when exploring new areas like the  new pastures at our new farm. Not knowing what is causing her sudden depression and weight loss we need to explore what could be causing this .

Our initial veterinarian consultation quoted us about $1000 for a full work up. This includes a full panel of bloodwork, an abdominal ultrasound, physical and rectal exams and a few other things. These are just the diagnostic costs. Any treatment needed for whatever they find would be additional. I put $7000 as our goal to cover any additional treatments that will be necessary to make Lucy comfortable & stay healthy.

In the event that we raise more than needed for Lucy's care & final bill, any additional donations will go towards the veterinary & recovery costs of the 4 slaughter bound rescue horses we took in this month.

Thank you so much in advance for any type donation . Every little bit helps . And we are so grateful for anything that will help our lovely Lucky Lucy .

Please share this so that we can reach our goal  & follow her progress.
Come visit her at the farm.
