Brittani & Lucas' Fertility Journey

I have started this campaign to help my daughter and son in law make their dream of having a family a reality. After 2.5+ years of battling infertility, their fertility specialist has recommended IVF as the best option to have a baby. They have already gone through numerous treatments and procedures, and have exhausted both their checking and savings accounts. With their permission, they have allowed me to share their journey to having a baby.

Lucas and Brittani decided to start trying for a family in the spring of 2015. Since then, this has been their journey:
** 3 different specialists
** Multiple health screenings and blood panels
** 1 hysterosalpingogram and 1 hysterosonogram
** 2 surgeries
** Numerous unsucessful cycles on Femara
[Femara (Letrozole): an oral drug that can result in the development of multiple follicles and multiple eggs releasing, thus creating more "targets" for the sperm and increasing the chances for conception.]
** 5 unsucessful rounds of IUI
["Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus via a catheter to facilitate fertilization. IUI provides the sperm an advantage by giving it a head start, but still requires a sperm to reach and fertilize the egg on its own. It is a less invasive and less expensive option compared to in vitro fertilization."]
** 1 ectopic pregnancy
** Vitamins, diets, herbal supplements, meditation, accupuncture and chinese medicine
Lucas and Brittani have experienced how taxing IVF is both physically and emotionally. Not to mention, financially draining. Infertility treatment is considered an elective procedure for insurance companies. Between weekly office visits, daily shots and oral medications, surgeries and lab fees, they have been left to wonder how they will be able to continue trying to grow their family. It is hard not to feel defeated but they remain faithful that God has a bigger plan.
Brittani is an only child and has always wanted a big family. Since she was just four years old, she loved babies. At daycare, rather than play with the other kids, she always wanted to stay inside and hold the babies. That has never changed.
Lucas is the oldest child. He has one brother and one sister. They are very close. Lucas treasures the importance of family and, like Brittani, from a young age couldn’t wait to have a family of his own.
Brittani and Lucas are high school sweethearts. Many naysayers, including myself, assumed their young love would never last. Almost 10 years later, their love has defied the odds and the naysayers. Over these past years, I have watched their relationship grow from two young kids with “puppy love” into the most loyal, dedicated, mature, loving relationship I have ever seen. The more challenges thrown at them, the stronger their love has become. They want nothing more in this life than to share this unyielding love with a child.
