Ciao a tutti!! Il mio nome è Jenifer e sono la scrittrice ed una delle interpeti dello spettacolo “Lu rusciu de lu mare”. Ho deciso di iniziare questa campagna per finanziarne la produzione.
Tutto è iniziato un paio di anni fa con il desiderio di mettere insieme le due cose che amo di più, la pizzica ed il teatro, e visto che la musica tradizonale salentina è ricca di storia e di contenuti ho creduto sin dall’inizo che l’idea avesse del potenziale, e quindi… eccomi qui!
Hello there! My name is Jenifer and I’m the writer and one of the performers of “Lu rusciu de lu mare”. I’m currently raising money to produce it.
It all started a couple of years ago with the desire to put two of the things I love most together, Pizzica (tarantella) and theatre.
As traditional Salento songs have so much history and content, I believed from the very beginning that this idea had great potential, and so… here I am!
CHI SONO
Sono un’attrice e ballerina di pizzica salentina (danza tradizionale del salento). Mi sono formata in Musical alla BSMT di Bologna e per questo ho voluto creare uno spettacolo che includesse le tre discipline (danza, canto e recitazione) ma utilizzando brani e danze della tradizione salentina.
Non definirei “Lu rusciu de lu mare” come un musical nel senso stretto del termine ma è sicuramente uno spettacolo che richiede molta versatilità.
Subito dopo il diploma mi sono trasferita a Londra dove vivo attualmente e dove spero di riuscire a portare il mio spettacolo dopo il suo debutto italiano.

WHO AM I
I am an actress and pizzica salentina dancer (a traditional tarantella from Salento, southern Italy). I trained in musical theatre at BSMT in Bologna and because of that I wanted to create a triple threat show (dancing, singing and acting), using traditional dance and music from Salento, southern Italy.
I wouldn’t refer to “Lu rusciu de lu mare” as a musical but it definitely requires a lot of versatility.
Right after graduation I moved to London where I currently live and where I would love to bring the show after it’s italian debut.

LA STORIA
La storia è ambientata nei primi anni '60 a Santa Caterina di Nardò nel Salento, una bellissima zona del Sud Italia. Ho dedicato molto tempo alla ricerca di questo periodo in quanto è per me molto importante essere fedeli e rispettosi delle abitudini, delle tradizioni e dei luoghi. Quando ho finito di scrivere la sceneggiatura, sono andata nel paese dove il racconto è ambientato perché volevo assicurarmi di aver scelto il posto giusto. È stata un'esperienza fortissima perché appena ho messo piede a Santa Caterina ho detto "Mammamia, sono nel mio racconto!", mi sembrava quasi di vedere i personaggi ballare in piazza.
Gli anni '60 furono un periodo caratterizzato da una forte emigrazione dal sud verso il nord. Non solo il lavoro era scarso, ma le donne erano fortemente oppresse in un mondo dominato dagli uomini, specialmente al sud. Questo è lo sfondo in cui si incontrano Amira e Nicola. Due ragazzi giovani e determinati, profondamente innamorate della vita, che sognavano essere una ballerina e un musicista. Tuttavia, non molto diversamente da come accade ancora oggi purtroppo, non era una strada facile da percorrere.
Mauro, il padre di Amira, la ostacola con tutte le sue forze. Era molto difficile guadagnarsi da vivere in quei giorni e desiderare di fare la ballerina era visto come una perdita di tempo. Inoltre Amira è una giovane donna, quindi il suo desiderio andava contro tutto ciò che ci si aspettava da loro (lavorare, cucinare, badare alla casa, crescere i bambini), e per usare le parole di Mauro: "non sta bene". Tuttavia, Amira non ci sta. Combatte con tutte le sue forze e alla fine, dopo molte discussioni, lei e suo padre scopriranno che entrambi hanno qualcosa da imparare l'una dall'altro. Inoltre, non dimentichiamo che dalla parte di Amira abbiamo Nicola, un musicista giovane e coraggioso che, indipendentemente dalle aspettative sociali, ha deciso di viaggiare con la sua musica e la incoraggia ad essere ciò che vuole.
Il tutto accompagnato da meravigliose musiche e danze della tradizione.
THE STORY
The story is set in the early 60s in Santa Caterina di Nardò in Salento, a beautiful area in Southern Italy. A lot of time was spent researching this era as it is important to be as faithful and respectful to the historical customs, traditions and locations. When I finished writing the script, I went to the town the piece was set in as I wanted to make sure I had chosen the right place for the story I wanted to tell. It was a very strong experience because as soon as I set foot in Santa Caterina I said “Mammamia, I'm in my story!", it almost felt like I could see the characters dancing in the square".
The 1960s was a period characterized by strong emigration from the south to the north. Not only was work scarce, but females were heavily oppressed in a male dominated world, especially in the south. This is the background in which Amira and Nicola meet. Two young and determined people, deeply in love with life, who had very specific dreams to be a dancer and a musician. However, not very differently from how it still is today, this was not an easy path to take.
Mauro, Amira's father, hinders her with all his might. It was very hard to make a living in those days and wanting to be a dancer was seen as a waste of time. Amira is also a young woman, so being a dancer went against of what was expected of them (working, cooking, tending the house, growing children), and in Mauro's words: "it doesn’t look good". Nevertheless, Amira is not taking it. She fights with all her strength and in the end, after many fiery arguments, they will discover that they both have something to learn from each other. Also, let's not forget that on Amira’s side we have Nicola, a young and courageous musician who, regardless of social expectations, decided to travel with his music and incourages her to be what she wants to be.
The story is enriched by the marvellous traditional music and dance.

Gli attori coinvolti in questo spettacolo mettono la loro arte, passione, talento, anni di studio e duro lavoro al servizio del progetto e quindi, come ogni altro lavoratore e come in ogni altra professione, meritano di essere pagati. Non sono nello spettacolo per farsi vedere e non sono nello spettacolo per fare pratica.
Sono nello spettacolo perché, oltre ad essere perfetti per il ruolo, questo è il modo in cui si guadagnano da vivere :)
- Per pagare i musicisti. I musicisti coinvolti in questo spettacolo mettono la loro arte, passione, talento, anni di studio e duro lavoro al servizio del progetto e quindi, come ogni altro lavoratore e come in ogni altra professione, meritano di essere pagati . Non sono nello spettacolo per farsi vedere e non sono nello spettacolo per fare pratica. Sono nello spettacolo perché, oltre ad essere bravissimi a suonare questo genere, è così che si guadagnano da vivere :)
- Per pagare la regista. La regista coinvolta in questo spettacolo mette la sua arte, passione, talento, anni di studio e duro lavoro al servizio del progetto e quindi, come ogni altro lavoratore e come in ogni altra professione, merita di essere pagata. Non lo fa per farsi vedere e lei non lo fa per fare pratica. Lo fa perché, oltre ad essere bravissima in quello ed io mi fidi di lei profondamente, è così che si guadagna da vivere :)
- Per pagare il teatro. Sedie reclinabili, palcoscenico, luci and all that jazz
-Per pagare i volantini ... taaaaaaaaanti volantini
- Per pagare lo psicanalista quando tutto questo sarà finito
- Per pagare tutto quello che probabilmente ho dimenticato e ricorderò all'ultimo minuto. C'è SEMPRE qualcosa.
WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR
- To pay the actors. The actors involved in this show put their art, passion, talent, years of study and hard work at the service of the project and therefore, like every other worker and like in every other profession, deserve to be paid. They’re not in the show to gain visibility and they’re not in the show to practice the job. They’re in the show because, apart from being perfect for the role, this is how they make a living :)
- To pay the musicians. The musicians involved in this show put their art, passion, talent, years of study and hard work at the service of the project and therefore, like every other worker and like in every other profession, deserve to be paid. They’re not in the show to gain visibility and they’re not in the show to practice the job. They’re in the show because, apart from being great at playing this genre, this is how they make a living :)
- To pay the director. The director involved in this show puts her art, passion, talent, years of study and hard work at the service of the project and therefore, like every other worker and like in every other profession, deserves to be paid. She’s not doing it to gain visibility and she’s not doing it to practice the job. She’s doing it because, apart from the fact that she’s great at what she does and I trust her deeply, this is how she makes a living :)
- To pay for the theatre. Reclining seats, stage, light and all that jazz
- To pay for the fliers… soooooo many fliers
- To pay for the psychoanalyst when this is all over.
- To pay for all I probably forgot about and will remember at the very last minute. There’s ALWAYS something.

Lo spettacolo andrà in scena a Pescara, la mia città di origine, ad ottobre. La campagna sarà aperta fino ad allora.

We will be performing in Pescara, my home town, in october. The campaign will be open until then.
