LOYO stands for Love Yourself. We are in the planning stages, looking for funding to register our non-profit with the Government of Canada, and pay for the development of our web-based social platform.
Did you know that 1 in 3 of us lives with anxiety or another mental health disorder? That 80% of us would seriously be able to improve our quality of life with proper mental health care, but that 90% of us can't afford it?
We can't change those numbers without first ending the stigma around mental health disorders. They are invisible illnesses that you come in contact with every single day, whether you know it or not. A lot of us have been shamed into keeping our suffering quiet, but we do indeed suffer.
LOYO will provide a social platform for people with mental illness to build profiles, post goals, attract kudos and cheers, and develop friendships worldwide. Visit www.lo-yo.weebly.com for more information.
Through our public speaking engagements (in schools and elsewhere) we will seek to educate the younger population about anxiety and mental health disorders in an effort to stop bullying, suicidal thoughts, depressive behaviours and more. We believe that education at an earlier age may help to improve the lives of many who will know how to seek help before the illness takes over.
Here's the best part: any fundraising done above and beyond the coverage of operating costs will be used to privately fund psychotherapy for those in our communities who need it but can't afford it. Plain and simple, this is going to be a non-profit whose mission it is to help real people in our area turn their lives into something they only dream about.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise the money needed to:
-register LOYO as a non-profit in Canada
-secure the domain and hosting for a website
-pay for the website development
After these three components have been completed, I will be presenting a total package, including a business plan, to both the government and private investors for the funding needed to bring the project to life.
I've developed a placeholder website to describe the dream while we wait for funding to build the big exciting site! www.lo-yo.weebly.com. You'll get a good idea of the other services that we are going to be offering through LOYO there, including the Treehouse Cafe and I'll Swim With You.
The "Changing Perceptions" lecture is completed and ready to present; I'll be posting a teaser video of the presentation on our website shortly.
