Homeless Women's Underwear Drive

Donation protected
My name is Jack Cooper. I am a Feminist and a Buddhist. I am going to raise as much money as I can to buy underwear for homeless women, and I need lots of help to do it!
Misogyny and violence against women is rampant in our culture – a fact that has been very well documented by the media over the past few weeks. I feel sickened and disgusted by such obvious disrespect for the humanity and well-being of women.
I am outraged and sad that rape culture exists. Women are exposed to it daily, through the blatant negativity in the American climate as well as through subtler, more insidious forms that are woven into the fabric of our male-dominated society.
It isn’t enough to just say I’m a feminist and care for women. Without constructive, positive action that embodies the concept as a practice, there can be no change. The same is true of saying I’m a Buddhist. If I don’t engage my practice through love and service for others, I’m merely claiming a label. Homeless women are among the most vulnerable and easily forgotten women in society. They face marginalization and threats to their physical and emotional well-being at all times.
According to Margaux Murphy, founder of The Sunday Love Project - an organization in Philadelphia that does outreach with and brings meals to homeless folks, one of the most frequently requested resources among the women she serves is access to clean underwear.
On December 4, 2016, I will stand with women by sitting down on my meditation cushion for five hours, without getting up. I will practice LovingKindness for girls and women by repeatedly resting my mind on this phrase: “May all girls and women everywhere be safe from harm.”

Want to help?
From now until December 4, 2016, support this practice by donating new, unopened packs of women’s briefs, or the money to buy them to The Sunday Love Project. Spread the word on social media, through word of mouth, face-to- face, on list serves, by any means necessary! Tell everyone you know!
Together we can go against the stream and make a positive impact on the lives of women. What we water will grow!
