We would like to thank you for all of your love and support. Also, during this difficult time, we thank you for the prayers concerning Simone.
At age 2 years old, Simone suddenly became sick in late 2016. With any little child, parents always think it may just be a virus. After being admitted to the hospital, her condition was not showing any improvement and more test were ordered. When the doctors at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital told us that our little girl had contracted a very rare and aggressive strand of E. coli, which is called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), we were devasted. It has been a difficult two months, because the virus has attacked Simone's body resulting in high blood, a reduced red blood cell count, and many days of dialysis as HUS attacked her kidneys. She will continue to be monitored closely.
Seeing our baby girl lying in a hospital bed with tubes coming out of her tiny little body is more than what any parent can withstand. We have spent weeks at the hospital providing Simone with as normal a routine as possible while keeping in constant contact with the doctors and her progress. The prognosis vascilated throughout her treatment, which is very scary for a parent, but now appears to be on the mend.
