It is hard asking for help! But here we go...
Since Louis' diagnosis in 2012, we have worked so hard to be as independent and productive as we can be despite the obvious challenges we have had to face.
After Celeste's first year in a very competitive graduate program at Johns Hopkins and the NIH, we spent the vast majority of the summer living in the hospital as Louis recovered from an experimental bone marrow transplant.
It has been a long, tumultuous time since the two of us have had a real vacation together. To be honest, it has been difficult for us to find time for ourselves and for our relationship in the midst of health crises and graduate school. We want to see a new part of the world together, reconnect with each other, relax, and find new inspiration. With Celeste pouring all of her earnings into rent and tuition, and Louis unable to work due to his disability, in order for us to have this getaway together we seek your help.
We are hoping to spend 10 days in Maui in January 2016 to see humpback whales* (Celeste's favorite animal), snorkel, explore national parks, marvel at volcanos, and spend time on the beach in the sun....
*Every winter up to 2/3rds of all north pacific humpback whales migrate to Hawaii to breed, calve, and nurse their young.
