The Los Diablos International Fire Crew is moving forward with a project to obtain tourist visas for crewmembers and we need your help to fund the logistics of the trip to make it happen. The Los Diablos International Fire Crew has been the primary resource to respond to wildland fires in Big Bend National Park since 1990. The crew has responded to wildland fires and natural disasters all over the United States as well. This includes some of the recent fires in 2016 in New Mexico and Southern California as well as Super Storm Sandy in New York in 2012. The crew consists of Mexican Nationals that live in the small communities of Boquillas, San Vicente, and Santa Elena on the south side of the Rio Grande. These firefighters are allowed to cross the border to work on wildland fires and other emergencies. Until this point they have not been able to obtain visas that allow them to take care of personal needs such as shopping and visiting family that live in the Unitied States. They currently are only allowed to work in the US but cannot cross the border for non-work related business. We want to change this. We currently have scheduled 10 visa appointments in Cuidad Juarez for March 1st and 2nd so these firefighters will be able request their tourist visas. This gofundme campaign is meant to help with the costs involved in traveling overland from these remote villages through Mexico to Cuidad Juarez. It will be an 18 hour trip on buses both ways and involve staying in a hotel in Cuidad Juarez for 3 nights. This fund will also help fund the 2nd group of 10 that we are hoping to send by April of 2017. Your support will allow these long time public servants to enter the US and take care basic needs such as obtaining food, fuel, and visiting loved ones. Your support will mean so much to these firefighters and their families and will help make the difficult and complicated process of obtaining their visas a little easier.
