On July 29th I was caught at the top of Mount Rinjani when the first 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Lombok. The local guides helped everyone get out to safety, but many of them returned home to find that their homes were destroyed.
On August 4th I returned to their village to help them with clean up. I saw entire villages reduced to rubble. The communities were sleeping in camps. Many of them were sleeping in these camps because they were too afraid to return to their homes. On the evening of August 5th the second 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the already compromised village.
My guides have been living in the camps since the first earthquake. They are experiencing daily aftershocks of up to 5.0 magnitude.
This fundraiser is to help my guides and their families rebuild their homes. I want to help them because at the time that their homes were collapsing, they were helping me and many other tourists escape from the mountain. Now it's my turn to help them rebuild.
