Hi,

My name is Logan Kennedy and I am a high school junior aspiring to be a composer. I also have an interest in being a performer. Recently, I was offered the opportunity to go on a 16-day tour of Europe with the Iowa Ambassadors of Music. This is by special invitation only and would take place in the summer of 2020.

From the beginning of my freshman year, I have been in love with music and spent a large portion of my time practicing and developing my understanding of music. During the summer of 2018, I marched with the Colt Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps out of Dubuque, Iowa, and we traveled the Midwest performing and competing. I’m a percussionist able to play multiple instruments. During my sophomore year, I also learned to play the trumpet, euphonium, French horn, oboe, tuba, and trombone. I’ve spent many hours teaching myself how to play and be the best musician I can be.

Music is my passion. This summer, I attended a music camp at Wartburg College that provided a week full of summer music classes. During this time, I learned about music theory, composition, and conducting. I also got to participate in a percussion chamber ensemble, start learning saxophone, and perform in a jazz band. With the support of my band director, we seek out as many options as possible to develop my music education. My hope is to attend the University of North Texas after graduation. This is one of the most respected comprehensive music schools in the United States.

Going on this European tour, playing the euphonium, would be incredible as it would broaden my music experience and education, as well as giving me some experience I can use in my life and toward my future. On this tour, we would travel from city to city sightseeing, as well as performing concerts for the local community. I would gain historical experience as well as musical. We will start our performances in London, moving on to Paris, then Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, and Germany. I’m also able to earn college music credit through this experience.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Because of the nature of this 16-day tour, long hours, airplane and tour bus travel, historical tours, music fees, lodging, etc, the trip is expensive. I have worked as a lifeguard this summer to earn as much money as I can toward my trip and will work throughout the school year. My parents are also helping me to pay for this trip. The total cost of the trip (not including paying for lunch on my own, a souvenir, theatre tickets, uniform, instrument travel, passport, and other things) is close to $7,000.

Again, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you have a passion for music or any passion that drives you, I am asking for your financial support to help me make this trip possible. No amount is too small. The full amount of the trip is due by November 15, 2019. I will have to start paying interest on the amount not paid after that date. Your support is appreciated and will help me to further my education, learn about world history, and help me to develop my passion. I truly do want to be the best musician I can be.

Your donation would 100% go toward my trip. Thank you so much for your consideration. I would be happy to share the details of my trip with you once I return from Europe.

Sincerely,
Logan Kennedy
