Sirga's story:
Sirga was around 10 days old when she was left behind by her family. She was hand raised by Val since then and she has become the most important thing in his life.
On many hundreds of walks in the savannah she learned to hunt and experienced life like a free lion. She is now 6 years old ready to live truly free.
With the team from Modisa Wildlife Project we managed to find a suitable reserve for her, we built a new enclosure, moved our office and Sirga to the new home where she is now waiting for the door to open and walk outside and go on her hunts again.
The area earmarked for her is 2000 ha large and holds enough wildlife for Sirga to live here sustainable. Even wild lions are around!
Our team and especially Val will always be around to look after Sirga and she will have the option to find human help. If she gets sick we will take care of her, if she gets skinny we will feed her extra food, if she wants to hug Val she can but if she wants to be free and live a lions life, she can! One day when she is too old to hunt we will ensure her retirement will be spend with plenty of food and water and the necessary medical care while she can still roam her reserve.
A GPS collar will ensure that we can find her should we not be certain of her well being and whereabouts.
The fence on her reserve is a standard wildlife fence but needs electric wires as well as mesh wire in order for her to be safe from walking away into an area where humans and their livestock are and where lions get shot. The fence also ensures that humans cannot get near Sirga since there is a good chance she would cause a fatal accident if anyone else but Val encounters her.
The Modisa Wildlife Project is building a tourist facility for a ecotourism experience and the proceeds from the camp will ensure that Sirga will be taken care of financially in the future, her reserve's fence and fire-breaks will be maintained, fresh water will be available and whatever else she will need will be there for her. All in all in the long run Sirga is taken care of.
Funding is needed for the upgrading and electrification of her fence, as well as construction of watering points for Sirga and other wildlife in the area. It is a 20km fence line and if the necessary funds can be raised Sirga is only months away from being free.
Without fundraising it could take us years before we may make this happen for her and even if we would succeed she would be an older lady already since she is in her prime at the moment.
Sirga's story has been documented in a series on Netflix called "Saving Sirga: Journey into the Heart of a Lion" and can be viewed there.

Money will be spend on the following:
Transportation of building materials (fence poles, wire, solar panels, batteries, energizer etc)
Employment of local staff for the construction
GPS Collar and monthly subscription for data downloads
Fuel for vehicles
Cement and about 10km of piping to create the water points
Storage tanks for the Water
Food for staff while on site (approximately 3 months with 15 workers)
A vehicle to patrol the fence until the Modisa Camp becomes operational.

Important Notice:
Through a fundraiser on a different platform we already managed to raise a substantial amount which has enabled us to move Sirga to her new home and for us to be there with our office as well as purchase an old 4x4 truck for all the the transportation. We also hired two staff members who make sure that Sirga is taken care of in case Val is not around. A lot of request for a gofundme page made us create this one. For all funds raised here we will subtract the equal amount from the other fundraiser .

If you’re donating for our campaign (donations over €90) and would like a sign with your name and nationality or dedicate it to someone then please remember to send an email with info to sirga@modisa.org after your donation :-)
The sign will be displayed on Sirga's boundary fence once it's done but until then you will get a personal photo of Val & Sirga with your sign.
Thanks to all of you, we appreciate every single donation and you’re all getting us one step closer to the goal.
Gratitude Val & Sirga

Here is your quick Guide on how to receive a personal photo of Sirga and Val holding your sign with your name, the name of a loved one, in dedication to or memory of someone with a paw-print in your countries national colours:
*In action since 29th Jan 2019

1: Help Sirga to be free by donating 90 EUR

2: Send us an email to sirga@modisa.org with the short text you would like on your sign (for example: In Dedication to my beloved Cat Mia) and your nationality. If you would not like your national colours the paw print will be done in Botswana colours.

3: Give us some time to make your sign and to have your picture taken with Sirga and Val. This can take a bit of time as she is not always cooperative ;-) You will then receive your photograph in full resolution vial email.

4: Your sign will become a permanent part of Sirga's reserve by being placed on the reserve's boundary fence. Each sign represents 40m of the 20.000m fence. Of course you can get two signs for 180 EUR, 3 for 270 etc. After 500 signs Sirga will be free and your sign forever part of her reserve.

Your support means everything to us, thank you so much everybody!

PS: For all supporters who have donated before the sign campaign started (Jan 29th), once the reserve is finished a sign with all names will be put at the reserve entrance with thanks to the people who helped. You will be asked by our team personally whether you are okay with it first.
For anyone who has donated 90 EUR or above since Jan 29 but did not received a sign yet please be sure to send us your email.
This post serves mainly to new donors as a reference on how to get their sign and allows us to make rather short and effective posts on our social media instead of having to explain it over an over again.
We thank you so much for the continued support and we are beyond exited for how far it has gotten and how close Sirga is to her freedom now because of you.

We wish all the best, Sirga and Val.

Hi Everyone, so we decided to run a little special thing for Sirga in the hope to raise the remaining funds quickly and have Sirga out ASAP. Under the campaign lets get Sirga out we are now posting the following via our social media and hope for a fantastic response:
Want to give a loved one a special gift? Or simply get your own name on a reserve that stands for the freedom and the safety for our Sirga? Here is your chance for something truly unique!
This is how it works:
We raised a lot of money from many wonderful people so far. The only thing missing now is additional security on the already built fences and Sirga can walk free. We are still around 50.000 USD short. That means we need 500 PEOPLE to donate 100 USD or 90 EUR each and SIRGA WILL BE FREE!
For each donation of 100USD/90EUR we will send you a PERSONAL FULL RESOLUTION PICTURE of Sirga and Val holding your metal sign with the name or in dedication to or in memory of someone.
Further, each 100USD/90EUR reflects a 40m section of fence which you will symbolically own by having your sign put on your section. We will keep it there for as long as Sirga and we are around and you become part of her reserve and forever part of the memory of how it got there.
To get started make your donation on one of the two fundraisers and send us a few words with the name of the person/animal that you would like to have put on your sign to sirga@modisa.org
Shortly after, once Val and Sirga have managed to take your photo we will send it to you via email after which it will be placed on the fence.
At your wish we will add your nationality by painting the lion paw-print in the sign in your flags colours. If we don't know of your nationality we will paint it in Sirga's national colours as in the pictures shown.
Of course 200 USD/180 EUR will get you two signs, two pictures and 80m of fence and so on...
for EUR donations: www.gofundme.com/loewe
for USD donations: sirga.mydagsite.com
and remember the email to sirga@modisa.org!

We hope it goes well and that Sirga can roam free soon. Upon completion we will contact each donor and ask for your permission to put up a sign at the reserve entrance with everyones names on it as a thanks to all the amazing support we received. Fingers crossed for our new approach to take of and thanks to everyone again for having brought us this far already! Val and Sirga

We are happy to announce that we carried out an aerial survey over Sirga's future territory to count the wildlife that exists within the 2000ha reserve. The two male lions were present and part of the count among others such as Gemsbok, Eland, Springbok, Steenbok, Duiker, Jackal, Bat-eared Fox and from our trail cams we know of Leopard, Hyena, Honey Badger, Genets, Cape Fox, many Springhares, Scrub Hares, Aardvark and many other animals who call this place home. In the few pictures you see Val conducting the survey and the most exciting pard of the count, the two male lions - hard to spot but visible ;-) After the count we went to the area where they were spotted and found them resting in the shade.
We thank you all for the continuous support and apologise as usual for the few updates, but the internet here is really more of an emergency thing then anything else and we rarely find the time to sit and load the websites and upload pictures since it is incredibly slow - but that is a small thing to deal with for living in such a wonderful place!
