Sirga's story:
Sirga was around 10 days old when she was left behind by her family. She was hand raised by Val since then and she has become the most important thing in his life.
On many hundreds of walks in the savannah she learned to hunt and experienced life like a free lion. She is now 6 years old ready to live truly free.
With the team from Modisa Wildlife Project we managed to find a suitable reserve for her, we built a new enclosure, moved our office and Sirga to the new home where she is now waiting for the door to open and walk outside and go on her hunts again.
The area earmarked for her is 2000 ha large and holds enough wildlife for Sirga to live here sustainable. Even wild lions are around!
Our team and especially Val will always be around to look after Sirga and she will have the option to find human help. If she gets sick we will take care of her, if she gets skinny we will feed her extra food, if she wants to hug Val she can but if she wants to be free and live a lions life, she can! One day when she is too old to hunt we will ensure her retirement will be spend with plenty of food and water and the necessary medical care while she can still roam her reserve.
A GPS collar will ensure that we can find her should we not be certain of her well being and whereabouts.
The fence on her reserve is a standard wildlife fence but needs electric wires as well as mesh wire in order for her to be safe from walking away into an area where humans and their livestock are and where lions get shot. The fence also ensures that humans cannot get near Sirga since there is a good chance she would cause a fatal accident if anyone else but Val encounters her.
The Modisa Wildlife Project is building a tourist facility for a ecotourism experience and the proceeds from the camp will ensure that Sirga will be taken care of financially in the future, her reserve's fence and fire-breaks will be maintained, fresh water will be available and whatever else she will need will be there for her. All in all in the long run Sirga is taken care of.
Funding is needed for the upgrading and electrification of her fence, as well as construction of watering points for Sirga and other wildlife in the area. It is a 20km fence line and if the necessary funds can be raised Sirga is only months away from being free.
Without fundraising it could take us years before we may make this happen for her and even if we would succeed she would be an older lady already since she is in her prime at the moment.
Sirga's story has been documented in a series on Netflix called "Saving Sirga: Journey into the Heart of a Lion" and can be viewed there.

Money will be spend on the following:
Transportation of building materials (fence poles, wire, solar panels, batteries, energizer etc)
Employment of local staff for the construction
GPS Collar and monthly subscription for data downloads
Fuel for vehicles
Cement and about 10km of piping to create the water points
Storage tanks for the Water
Food for staff while on site (approximately 3 months with 15 workers)
A vehicle to patrol the fence until the Modisa Camp becomes operational.

Important Notice:
Through a fundraiser on a different platform we already managed to raise a substantial amount which has enabled us to move Sirga to her new home and for us to be there with our office as well as purchase an old 4x4 truck for all the the transportation. We also hired two staff members who make sure that Sirga is taken care of in case Val is not around. A lot of request for a gofundme page made us create this one. For all funds raised here we will subtract the equal amount from the other fundraiser .

Hi Everyone,
Sorry its been a while. The internet here is still extraordinarily slow ;-) sometimes it takes half a day to open emails and the gofundme page takes very long to load... anyways, here a little update from us again:
Its getting hot here with the days usually being in the 40's C and so far no rain although we had the first thunderstorm this afternoon right over us, but it only made noise, blew a lot of sand around with strong hot gusts and left us with 3 drops of rain.
Sirga is well and is relaxing most of the time. During the nights she is talking (roaring) and often we can hear other lions answer in the distance. She certainly is eager to go outside. She knows well where to door to her enclosure is and when I am inside she keeps on walking towards it and looking back at me as if she wants to tell me that is is ready to go. I try to explain to her that she needs to wait for the fence to be finished but i doubt she understands ;-)
We just finished a wildlife survey here in the area. I was flying with the paraglider to count animals that are around here. This helps us with the wildlife management in the area and also gives us an idea of home many large predators the area can support and if Sirga will be able to live here sustainably even with a family - answer is yes she can! (FYI the flying is payed for privately and no donations are used for it since it is part of the reserve management either way). Sirga seems to enjoy watching the paraglider fly around ;-)
We are busy trying to reach more newspapers and websites all over the world who might be interested in publishing us and Sirga to promote our efforts further. If anyone has ideas please let us know here in the comment section. But either way, things are moving along, we are working on the fence and when the funding goal is reached Sirga will only be weeks away from freedom. We thank you all for your support. We would not be here without you and I can certainly speak for Sirga as well when I say we are forever grateful.

Hi Everyone,
We have been offline for a bit because the internet connection was down. But we are back. we managed to purchase the first materials to start the electrification of the 20km fence. Sirga is probably as excited as we are since she can watch from the corner of her cage how we are starting construction. Unfortunately my Phone had a complete breakdown and pics of the fence work will follow as soon as I can find a replacement ;-) for anyone who is not aware of Sirga's facebook page, you can follow updates and see plenty of pics here: www.facebook.com/sirgathelioness/
Even though we are not as close as we wish to be to the end of the fundraiser we are making constant progress and it is only a matter of time for Sirga to be free.
As usual a HUGE thanks to everyone who has been supporting the cause! We would not know what do to without you. As you can see we are keeping Sirga entertained while she is waiting ;-)

The new cover video is our new crowd-funding movie, just to mix things up a bit and to not be boring ;-)
Attached are pics of Val at a TV show in Germany talking about Sirga, one of the big newspaper articles and one of a Spotted Hyena roaming around in Sirga's new territory. The last long update explains more of the story in details ;-)
