Live Sound & Studio Upgrades

Donation protected
Hi - I'm Cal. I'm a musician, a storyteller, a writer, a creator. You could call me a Jack-of-a-Few-Trades. I'm a lover of God, a player of whistles, a teller of stories, an appreciator of wonder, and afraid of spiders. (And no, I'm not kidding about that last bit.)

I've wrestled with even putting this out there - there are SO many needy people. who need your help, that my little corner of the world seems a tad silly. But, as my friends, family, and loved ones remind me, there is also need for music and creativity. And that's where I can do something to help.

And why I need your help.

There are a couple of pieces to this request:

The first is to help in replacing my most noble Bose sound system. The Bose PAS Model 1 been the center of my live sound since somewhere around 2005, and it's a workhorse. But, everything wears out eventually, and my mighty Bose has hit that point. The part of this self-contained system that provides the bass has gone bye-bye, and the TechnoWizards at Bose tell us that it can't be fixed in this model. (Which is their very first generation of PAS!)

However...
We have an opportunity to trade up our system, to a brand new Model 2, at about 50% of what a new one would cost. And parts of our existing system are fine and will still be working with the new pieces.

The first $1000 of this fund raiser goes to upgrade the Bose PAS Model 1 to a new Model 2.

Should that goal be reached, here's what I'm a'gonna' do:

I'll be drawing three names from those who contribute to the first $1000, and those three folks will receive a free concert / gig / house party / thingie. Want some music for a little shindig at your place? Sure. Want some seasonal sounds for your Small Group party? Done. The three names drawn will get us at your party or event to toodle my little whistles and stuff!

As for the rest of the campaign - the remaining $1500 - I'd love to have your help in revamping the hardware and software in my studio at home.

11 years ago, I released my first CD, "Angelica's Waltz," as something to help me in the healing process after being laid off from a job of almost 20 years. I found God's grace and care in the songs of that album. It was followed by a Christmas CD, "WhistleWonder: The Carols of Christmas" around 2008. And that's where everything stalled.

7 years ago, the surgery that saved my life happened, and 240 pounds of me went away for good. Since then, I've wandered, trying to learn who I am in this new body, and what I am to do now. Along the way, hymn arrangements and other songs happened, but no real progress toward releasing them into the wild.

I'd like to get the hymn series I've always dreamed of, "Quiet Strength," started. But my creative machine needs some help...

Among the things we need are a new audio interface for my computer - which is the "voice" of the system, turning sound into digits, and back again. And a new MIDI interface, to allow the various things to play well together.
The devices from iConnectivity will be our boxes of choice to do the deed. $200-300 for the audio interface, and another $100 for the MIDI interface.

We'll be replacing my 2006 MacBook as well, which serves as my backup band on live gigs. We have a very, very, VERY great used replacement in view - hopefully for around $300.

Another "major" addition is a way to record quality sound in my living room... I mean, in a non-perfect room...
Say hello to the Eyeball. The Kaotica Eyeball, that is. $200 worth of mic isolation, to make it possible to record whistles with the poodle snoring in the next room. (And yes, I am totally serious about that.)

The rest of the funds, should folks be so kind, go toward software upgrades and additions, upgrading my system and making it possible to add new sounds and textures to the fold.

I'm thinking about a way to thank all the kind people who will help us reach this goal, so stay tuned. At the very least, everyone who contributes in any way gets a copy of the first release in the Quiet Strength series! But there will be other gifts as well, to express how much we deeply appreciate you.

Like I said, I hesitated even doing this. But there is a need in this chaotic world for music and story, for peace and joy, and for art of all forms to feed the soul. That is the little part I can do, and it means more than I can express that you would consider joining me in that work.

Thank you.
