When we started the adoption process six years ago, there was no way we anticipated the story that would come of it. We didn't know specifics, but we knew one thing: we wanted to allow people to be a part of it — to see the bits and pieces of adoption that you don't often see.
From the beginning, our community has rallied around us. You have walked with us through excitement, jubilation, possibilities, grief, frustration, hope, and confusion. More than once, we've been overwhelmed by the love Jubal already has surrounding him. We have people in our lives who have fought for him for years — believing with us and for us that one day we'd hold him in our arms.

And now we're weeks away. Any moment now, our little lion man will be here.
Recently, we found out our birth mother's due date moved up to November 5. Because she lives out of state, initially we planned on her traveling to Texas to give birth. However, since she's now full term, her doctors don't want her to travel. This makes complete sense to us, and since we always knew we might need to travel, we've been slowly preparing for the possiblity.
But we need some help.
We recently had to update our homestudy, and with that came an unexpected fee. We've updated our homestudy before — a six year wait will require at least two updates — but we've never had to pay an additional $1000.
We also will be required to complete additional paperwork since the birth won't be in Texas. This can cost anywhere from $1500-$2000. We knew this would be a possiblity, so we've been trying to save as much as possible, but we're still not at a place where we can pay the fee with confidence.
We've had a lot of people ask us if there's anything we need, and this is it. We're hoping to have the money before November so we can be ready at any moment. Any amount you can give would be huge for us. We don't see this as a barrier between us and our little lion man, it's just another part of the story.
We love our birth mother and are relieved she'll be able to give birth in a place where she's comfortable and known. We've also been gifted a place to stay by family members, so we don't have to worry about lodging.
